This fits between the first and second of the main series. Short but sweet story. Not necessary to read to understand the rest of the series but worth it!

The Story
In the beginning of the Doomsday Brethren forming, twins Raiden and Ronan are out looking for females to boost their magical energy. Ronan is unable to keep his eyes off Kari, a pub owner. He has been trying to sleep with her for over two years. It has now turned into a fever, an obsession to be close to her, to know her. Kari is in love with him, but doesn't want to be another notch on his belt. The twins ancestors were cursed over a thousand years ago, to never have the mating instinct and to lose their mate tragically. This is the only thing keeping Ronan from mating with Kari. She doesn't believe in curses, together they must believe.

Thoughts
This is an 88 page short story, I always wish they were longer. This is a fast paced quick little read. It is free on Shayla Blacks website.... Ronan and Kari are good together, fated as it were. Raiden's story is in Haunted by Your Touch, that just came out. An equally tasty tid bit from the DoomsDay Brethren. There is a fun battle at the end, an insight as to the beginning of the war.

"Fated" is a novella in Shayla Black's Doomsday Brethren series, available only in ebook form. Based on my reading, it seems like the events here are happening in the same time frame as the second half of "Seduce Me In Shadow (The Doomsday Brethren, Book 2)." And it introduces three men who will join the Brethren: Tynan, Ronan, and Raiden. (In case you're not up to speed on the series, the Brethren is a group of wizards in modern-day England who have banded together to fight off a super-powerful evil wizard, and his minions, and to keep him away from a powerful tome called the Doomsday Diary.)

Like all wizards, Ronan has to have frequent, er, relations with members of the opposite sex to maintain his powers. But he has grown weary of bed hopping and has fixated on a human bartender named Kari. Unfortunately, there is a curse on his family, which prevents the men from taking a mate. So he's afraid if he mates with her, she'll die.

It's a short little story (only 88 pages), but I enjoyed it. You can read about Ronan's twin brother Raiden and his love in "Haunted by Your Touch." 4 stars.

Good novella, worth the read esp. since the characters appear in the rest of the series. This is available for free on Black's website though.
