This is the third book in the series about Marina and it is an excellent addition to the series.
Beginning shortly after the last book finished, marina is still dealing with the emotions evoked by her horrific kidnap ordeal at the hands of people who wanted to breed half-mermaid hybrids and abuse Marina's powers as a muse. Marina is still shaken and is even avoiding surfing; she also questions her muse powers, is it right that she can influence people and she worries about how people could use her powers for ill intents and if there are any negative effects towards others when she is angry. To try and de stress she begins surfing and meets up with Lorelei and Nerissa, she finds that she is able to communicate telepathically with them and they also have a special surprise for her.
Marina's friends continue to become more successful in their chosen professions, Shayla as a model, Cruz as a fashion designer and Megan as a singer. marina revels in their personal successes but at the same time is questioning if she is right to be able to influence people like this.
In the aftermath of the kidnap, marina has been summoned to a meeting of the half-mermaid council in Paris, she is nervous about the meeting, not wanting to reveal how extensive her mermaid abilities truly are and also wanting to keep the mermaid's newest secret.
On her return to Aptos marina spends her time with her friends and Ethan, secretly surfing with the mermaids at night. Marina and Ethan's relationship is becoming serious and they are thinking hard about mariage but Ethan is woring and busy all the time, is he influenced to work harder by Marina's power?
Marina is scared that the people who orchestrated her kidnap have not finished with her and she finds the true nature of the evil as the book reaches it's tempestuous climax. This book has a better pace than the previous books, there are some exciting moments throughout the book all of which build up to the exciting events towards the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and liked the way in which the story develops, Marina becomes stronger as she faces her struggles and begins to understand what her true purpose is. The relationship between Marina and Ethan continues to strengthen and even though I think that he is too controlling, he proves both his loyalty and his love to Marina. I think that their relationship is both beautiful and suffocating, their intensity towards one another can be endearing but a bit much at times. If you have read and enjoyed the previous books then this latest instalment is a must read. This unique and exciting series has everything, romance, mystery, likeable characters, drama and a lot of depth; the books are well written and I definitely recommend the series as a whole.
