This is a most beautiful film in my opinion. By turns funny and touching this was a fanatastic cinematic experience for me. I found myself unable to take sides as the characters in front of me turn into real people. This film combines great acting with a good story: a recent widow finds out that her husband had a lover. She decides to dig in just be surprised by the fact that the lover was a man. Yet she keeps coming back to this new world, trying to find herself by finding out who her husband really was. The DVD is good without going really very far. There's a trailer, a couple of trailers for other films, a making of. The menus I found slightly annoying but might be just my copy.

Usually I find foreign language films rather gruelling work and the magic is lost in the reading of its subtitles. However, with Le Fate Ignoranti, I found it exceptionally spell-binding. It was a touching, feel good story, fusing love with betrayal and sadness with comedy. It was filled with extraordinary emotion and viewed its characters, from all walks of life, with compassion and humility. A cracking film, I'd say.

This film explores the theme of the expanded family, one of Östepek's most favoured subjects, and how the loss of someone loved can bring somewhat disparate lives together. It is a beautiful story about love and life and is according to me Östepek's best film. The U.S. title says something about the story, but I prefer The ignorant fairies, which follows the Italian.
