3.0 out of 5 stars Aerial warfare on a grand scale but just too farfetched., 14 Dec 1998
By A Customer
The author of the "Old Dog" sagas has brought his genre up to date with modern politics and weaponry including the usual mind bogglingly detailed technical descriptions which bring such a feeling of authenticity to his books. This tale includes old familiar characters in new career settings and set against a background of China setting out to reclaim its former territory in Taiwan and the Old Dog crew being all that stands between them and success.. As usual it is full of action set on the grandest of scales and with a global backdrop. The plot has Dale Brown's usual twists and turns which keep the interest going and which get one wondering how on earth the good guys can possibly get out of this one successfully. What did disappoint however was that tales such as this work only if the suspension of disbelief operates and in this case it does not come off. One can become immersed in the tale and gripped by the characters for as long as there in a vestige of belief that "this could actually happen". In "Fatal Terrain" however the characters ........ good and bad guys ........ act so bizarrely at times that one is brought back to reality with a start on several occasions thinking "wait a moment. that is just too unbelievable." Similarily the plot goes just too far to retain even a vestige of credibility at times. I am always dissatisfied when my mind deserts the plot of a book to begin to protest that "this is just not possible" and this I found to be such a book. So .......... riproaring activity .......... major warfare on a continental scale ....... larger than life charcters.......but the important believability which can keep one rivetted is sadly in this case lacking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced heart pounding Hi-tech Adventure, 14 April 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fatal Terrain (Hardcover)
Fatal Terrain is the latest book from Dale Brown that I read and carries the torch well. The same characters are there from Day of the Cheeta,Sky Masters etc but the plot is consistantly running at a fast paced very very few lulls to get bored in. A First class novel for fans of the rest of the series and first time readers as well
