'Forget the fat - you can enjoy your favourite spicy dishes and still lose weight' Slimmer Magazine '150 fabulous and favourite Indian dishes which are deliciously spiced and packed with flavour - but without the oil and Grease' Zest

Product Description

Leading Indian cookery writer and television presenter Mridula Baljekar has discovered a revolutionary method that means you can enjoy delicious Indian meals, packed with taste, flavour, health and vitality, but without any added fat. Because fat contains more calories per gram than other groups of food and excessive consumption of it has been linked to many serious diseases, cutting down on it is essential for a healthy, slimming diet, but this is often at the expense of favourite meals. This book shows how Mridula Baljekar uses her unrivalled knowledge of traditional Indian cooking to present an imaginative feast of beautifully flavoured healthy recipes in a book that will change the way we think about Indian cooking.

What a deceptive little book. Printed on something close to blotting paper and refusing to open flat unless you break the spine, this looks like a 1950's throwback with its colour plates all together in the middle. At [the price] one could expect a bit more production quality.
BUT!! the recipes and their philosophy are outstanding. Originally bought to satisfy my partner's hobby of weight management, the book stayed on the shelf, unused. Eventually finding its way on to the bedside table and finally into the kitchen Mridula's masterpiece was discovered.
The recipes are wonderfully varied and unusually fresh and fragrant: delicate flavours combine and every dish leaves you wanting more. This book now rarely sits alongside the shelves of books on Indian cookery - the accumulation of a lifetime. It has become a permanent feature of the kitchen table, rapidly turning yellow from turmeric fingers and repeatedly delighting with every new recipe tried. By the way, it is also a bonus for the weight management.......... Thank you Mridula.

I was very excited about when my fiancé ordered this for me. I love Indian food and having recently joined a diet program I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to enjoy it properly again without experiencing the guilt!

I have only had the book a week and have tried fourteen of the recipes in it and each one has been brilliant. I am hard pushed to say which my favourite so far is but the chicken korma is the best I've ever tasted, it just tastes right and perfectly balanced. The vindaloo recipe is simply delicious and so easy to make, I think if my family would put up with it then I would be cooking it every day!

Not only are the recipes brilliant but they are well written. They are written in a way that makes logical sense, even down to the fact that the ingredients are listed in the order that you use them! There are also lots of useful tips included within the pages and many interesting facts about the different ingredients and the origins of the recipes themselves.

I honestly cannot say enough about this book and I have an irrational fear that something is going to happen to my copy of it and I won't be able to get another! So, with that in mind I think you should buy two, just to have a back up! Just so you know I'm not biased, there is actually a bad point to this book and here it is, unfortunately it is just a standard paper back and I prefer ring binder style recipe books. I'm willing to over look that though. The perfect curry is a labour of love and I love this book. Thank you so much Mridula Baljekar.
