There are plenty of MP3 rip-n-burn packages now available on the domestic software market; MP3 Platinum Maker predictably claims itself one of the best--and with its additional features and editing effects, it might just be right. Like most of the other similar software offerings, the essential idea is simple--you can rip audio files from various sources (PCs, CDs, etc) then burn them on to your own brand new CDs utilising the software and guidance provided. Again, as with other rival software gizmos, you can use Platinum Maker to devise playlists, locate MP3 files online, convert pre-ripped MP3 files into the one same, suitably uniform, format, etc. All this is well and good, of course, but also slightly workaday.
What possibly marks out MP3 Platinum Maker as a cut above is its additional features: with this package you can re-edit and tone up old tracks, locate online digital radio tracks and rip them too, cross-fade between tracks and files, conjure weird light effects with synchronised 3-D images, even sample and rip phone conversations, TV sounds, Webcasts--maybe even record and overdub the funny noise Windows makes when it opens up. Admittedly, you might not want to make your very own CD full of computer noises, but there's probably someone out there who does. It's a fine gift for the mildly advanced audio-computer boffin. --Sean Thomas

Serious space saver!,

The best thing about mp3 platinum is its ability to convert any audio file into the new MP3 Pro format. I have already converted gigs and gigs worth normal MP3 tracks and saved over half the storage space. No need for a new hard disk now. I don't really care for features and visual tricks, it does have them, but MP3 Pro is what I wanted and that's exactly what it does and very well too!

Not very reliable in XP,

If you've got XP don't buy this software. I've not been able to run it without error in XP - works fine in W2K though. Also, some glitches found in the mp3s created. Unable to listen to 6music through the internet radio function as it can't recognise the stream. There apprear to be many bugs and glitches with this software. The fact that the UI is not sizeable is also a pain.Not very happy with this product to the extent that I cam not using it anymore and have gone for the cheaper Winamp Pro product - this works fine.

You will have already seen that this is agood value MP3 package but you will be wondering if it is any good, yes? Have no fear - value for money and a joy to use, we recommend it whole-heartedly.
