Honing our general skills in project management seems like the obvious answer, but Fast Projects promises a quicker and easier solution - cutting the time to get projects done in the first place.

Learning to operate within a short schedule not only cuts costs and improves revenue and cash flow, but it also sets you aside as a sharper and slicker operation. How to build, shorten and execute a realistic plan in the shortest time possible is covered in detail along with a specific focus on ensuring you have clearly defined goals and are making accurate project predictions with a successful tracking progress.

Using worked examples and tried and tested techniques, Fast Projects is your practical guide to ensuring projects not only succeed, but are delivered early. If you want to get the most out of your team and take control of your workload, resources and time, this book is for you.

I got this book from the library and I will be buying a copy, and singing it's praises.

I read the whole book on a flight home after an intense day of project planning and it kept my attention for the whole journey, has stayed fresh next morning, and it still makes sense now.

There isn't a claim for guru status, there isn't a recommendation that you must do something particular, or use a particualr piece of software. This literally takes you through the basics in an accessible way that doesn't patronise experienced project managers.

The '12 reasons for project failure' will make any project manager smile and want to read more, and it does actually give you real ways to avoid these 12 pitfalls.

It is cheap, cheerful and I think every project manager should have a copy.

Project Management 17 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback
Recommended to me as a good book to read in support of the APM body of knowledge. I found it a very readable book which really helped to dispel some of the myths associated with project management. I found it really useful to read alongside the APM body of knowledge. This book makes some of the concepts understandable and memorable. I found it really useful during my study for the APM exam. The text is easy to understand and easy to apply. Follow this and your projects will improve.

Fast read as well 23 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
This book takes mystique out of project management and breaks it down to simple principles and common sense.

It's quick to read, sparing of extraneous information, yet thorough.

If additions to a project are made after you've begun, you have only three choices:

1) Deliver the project late
2) Use the contingency you built in at the start
3) Work longer hours to get the project done

It's wisdom like this that may seem obvious, yet set down on paper by an experienced project manager and alongside dozens of similar observations, is empowering.

If you want a fast introduction to what project management is essentially about, I recommend this.
