Clear and concise, yet detailed, this book explains the fundamentals of digital recording in general and Cubase SX in particular, from the basics to the complex – and the truth is, recording audio well is a complicated business. This book makes the whole process clear and understandable. Having tried many 'Quick Start' guides, with limited success, I found this book told me everything I needed to know to start making decent recordings, from input to final mix. If you're relatively new to music recording, this book is essential. All manuals should be this good.

The title of this book is a little misleading if you think it will get you up and running fast. It should be renamed 'The Comprehensive Guide...' there is so much info and the detail the author goes into is awesome. I have read several other tutorial books for software sequencers and have to say that this is by far the most boring read I have ever had to endure, the author writes with no personality, this would not be a bad thing if it was meant to be a straight forward manual but it is supposed to be a tutorial book.
The book is cheaply made and the binding began to fall apart quite soon, it smells bad like it is made from toxic chemicals, also I found it would not stay open and kept closing itself which was infuriating. The writting is not dark enough and is too small and goes right up to the center edge of the page which makes it difficult to read.
The info therein is priceless and the author is very knowledgeable indeed (if a little bland), however it could have been produced with a lot more care hence the two stars.

Fantastic guide to Cubase.

I find this a facinating book that helps to quickly knock down the learning curve of Cubase SX. To me it's easier to digest than the manual supplied with Cubase. I have Cubase 1.0 and Cubase Studio 4, it seems to be adequate for this and in between. From setting up your first audio or midi recording, to editing, to mastering, it seems to cover all aspects in a reasonable sized book. I can't think of much that could be done to improve it. I highly recommend this for anyone who has a desire to dive into computer based recording. It even give brand name mic and interface hardware recommendations. I sat down at a local national bookstore and combed over 3 different guides to Cubase and this one clearly excelled, prompting me to purchase it. This is one I never lend out!

Fast Guide to Cubase SX , The best I've seen to date

This book is actually the only biik that does Cubase SX 3 any justice, from start to finish, it gets to the point (No long talking, Jamaican term for short and to the point.
I recomend it to all user trying to learn Cubase it lessens the learning curve.
