NINA HAMNETT (1890-1956)was flamboyant, eccentric and a rebel, a famous figure in the cafe society of Paris in the 1920's. Although she was unnecessarily modest about her abilities as an artist, her paintings are forthright, concise expressions of modernity; psychological portraits reflecting the spirit of the age. The war drove Nina back to London where Soho became the substitute for Paris. Friends from this final period of her life give their testimony to her resolute breaking of the taboos of conventional morality to the very end.
