Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Jane Packer has run a successful London floral design business for years, and in 1986 was commissioned to create the floral arrangements for Sarah Ferguson's wedding to Prince Andrew. In Fast Flower Arranging, she shares 120 arrangements that each take no more than three simple steps to complete. These are bright, modern arrangement--lively and informal yet sophisticated, many of them can be done in five minutes with fairly inexpensive materials. Two sections at the end of the book show how "special effect" holiday table arrangements can be created, and how to dress up gifts uniquely using flowers. It's the perfect flower-arranging book for people with a funky vase collection and a predilection for bright colour.

I found Jane Packer's book truly inspirational - using amazingly simple methods to achieve striking and imaginative results in most cases. The results often involved the use of attactive toning or contrasting containers and materials such as glass (clear or coloured in many shapes and sizes), aluminium, terracotta, raffia, shells etc. The use of just one type of flower in the majority of displays resulted in pleasingly simple but effective arrangements and these were probably my favourites in this book. To see such common things as daffodils, tulips, freesias, gerberas, dahlias, sunflowers and even carnations presented so refreshingly and simply made me dare to attempt them (instead of just wishing I had the nerve and not trying). Most of the flowers used are widely available at reasonable prices; some can even be grown easily in the garden. One small frustration was seeing sumptuous bunches of ranunculus and paeonies and knowing that, even if I did know where to source the flowers locally, the price would be ruinous! Still, a good 75% of the book's arrangements are easily achievable by an amateur and yet wouldn't disgrace a more experienced flower arranger. A good buy.
