Book Description

25 Jan 2012 Fiell Fashion Sourcebooks
'Fashion Sourcebook - 1920s' is the first book in a brand-new series by Fiell Publishing that documents comprehensively the seasonal fashion styles of the 20th century, decade by decade. Sumptuously illustrated with over 600 original photographs, drawings and prints, this title is a must-have reference work for not only students of fashion, but for all fashionistas. 'Fashion Sourcebook - 1920s' focuses on the Art Deco period with its beautiful beaded dresses, cloche hats and t-bar shoes as worn by the fashionable flappers and the 'bright young things' of the time. An accompanying introduction outlines the major themes within fashion during this period and introduces its most famous designers and assesses their creative contributions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic resource full of unique images 25 May 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have a LOT of books on 1920s fashion, plus hundreds of images that I've found online, so my main concern when ordering this book was that I might have seen many of the pictures already. I needn't have worried though, as I hadn't - I recognised only three or four images in the whole book - so it really is worth getting if you're interested in the period. It's also HUGE - I hadn't really clocked that before buying it, but it's 600-odd pages, and A4-ish size. I spent four hours looking through it when it first arrived and had still only made it about a third of the way through. It's also a good mix of fashion illustrations (both high-end and more mainstream) and period photographs. Great book, far surpassed my expectations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It 25 July 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I fanned through the pages and fell instantly in love.
As mentioned by a previous reviewer, it is a beast of a book - among the largest in my collection to date.
The colour plates are exceptional and inspirational - I can't think of enough superlatives to describe this book!
As a knitwear designer, I think this tome will provide enough inspiration to keep me busy for quite some time.
I hope nobody wants dinner tonight, I have a feeling I won't be setting this book down long enough to cook!
Added 26/7/12:
Well, I was quite giddy when I received this book yesterday. Now I've taken a breath, and had a good look through, I think I'm even more impressed.
The book mainly comprises beautiful artwork, with a few sepia photographs of actresses & models of the period. The styles are broken down into categories: daywear, outerwear, eveningwear, accessories, and the all-encompassing 'other', which includes lingerie & wedding gowns. Each illustration carries a legend, some with more detail than others.
I haven't yet read the introduction in full, or all the pocket biographies; I'll probably get to those when I'm done (or take a break from!) feasting my eyes on the glorious fashions.
This is a fab book for anyone with an interest in the history of women's fashion (no menswear: dedicated purely to us ladies); a great 'picture-book' for grown-ups.
Now I can't wait for the next book to be released next year, and I hope the creators will be covering the 40s & 50s in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! What a Fantastic Resource. 1 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have been researching 1920s fashion over the past few weeks and I found the reviews for Fashion Sourcebook - 1920s by Fiell here on Amazon. I ordered it over the weekend with Free Super Saver delivery and it arrived on Monday morning! How's that for Service?
It is exactly as decribed by the first two reviewers, as amazing book stacked full of beautiful photos, fashion plates etc. showing anything and everything that a woman could have worn in the 1920s from skin out. I am interesetd in making 1920s manniquin style cloth dolls so I now have endless inspiration. I am also a knitwear designer so my brain is whirring.....
