Review

"Hodge created a lovely chick-lit/thriller storyline that reminds me of Charlaine Harris' Lily Bard mysteries that I love to eat up."
--The New Podler Review of Books

"In this cleverly written book, the reader is taken on a variety of plot twists with a missing fashion designer, crazy mobster stalkers, and a police officer on the war-path. Sexy Amber Fox is on the case and it will take all her female wit and feminine ways to stay ahead of the game. The novel was entertaining and enjoyable. A recommend for anyone."

Product Description

The Fashion Police was runner-up in the Chapter One Promotions Novel Competition 2010 and nominated Best Novel with Romantic Elements 2010 by The Romance Reviews. It is a screwball comedy-mystery, combining murder and mayhem with romance and chick-lit.

Amber Fox has been making too many mistakes lately and something's got to give...

For starters, Amber accidentally shoots Chief Inspector Janice Skipper and gets thrown off the police force. The only one who knows the truth about the incident is Amber, but no one will believe her.

After accepting a job as an insurance investigator from her ex-fiancé, Brad Beckett, it turns out that Brad thinks they've still got unfinished business and the job description includes sexual favours that come with a price.

When fashion designer, Umberto Fandango, goes missing, Amber becomes embroiled in a complicated case. But Amber's arch-enemy, Chief Inspector Skipper, is also investigating his disappearance, and it's a race against time for Amber to solve the mystery before Skipper does and get her old job back. And just when Amber thinks things can't get any worse, she's being stalked by some crazy mobsters.

Who is Umberto Fandango? Is he dead? And can Amber stay one step ahead and stay alive?

Funny funny funny! 21 Aug 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the first of the Amber Fox 'chick-lit' mystery series.

I read these out of order but as it happens each of them can be read as stand-alone stories. This is a very funny book. Amber Fox has been thrown out of the police force and is now working for her ex-fiancées insurance company. There are four cases to be sorted out, one of which involves a high profile fashion designer. All the cases end up being linked in ways you would never imagine. Amber seems to lurch from misadventure to comic misadventure, somehow maintaining dignity and sanity. She is chased by the mob and is in love with two men. Whoever said life was easy?

I found this very funny. There were some laugh out loud moments. I implore anyone reading this to have some tissues handy, you will need them after laughing so hard!

I wanted to read this series after seeing it described as being similar to Gemma Halliday's 'High Heel Mystery' series. I've only just discovered the chick lit/murder mystery genre and I am now a big fan. I read Gemma Halliday's entire series really quickly and thoroughly enjoyed it so I was a bit worried that I'd be disappointed with 'The Fashion Police' and that I'd see it as a weak immitation. Well I am pleased to say this book far surpasses the High Heel Mystery series in my opinion. Yes there are several similarities between the heroines in each series, but Amber Fox is just fabulous and this book was brilliant. It was fun, sassy, fast paced and laugh out loud funny in so many places. Plus, the mystery element was really well written with several twists and turns so the reader didn't guess the ultimate conclusion until it was revealed, which cannot be said for the High Heel Mystery series. I can't wait to read the sequel (Be Careful What You Wish For (Amber Fox Mystery)) and I hope to see many more in this series- long live Amber Fox!!

A brilliant read 14 Sep 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
This is very cleverly written, neat and stylish, a modern comedy mystery which has a great deal of wit and humor. Amber is a sassy and larger than life character with a sweet side. She is a very funny narrator and has a deft way with words. I loved the romantic tension in a tug of war between her boss and boyfriend. I had no idea which way the mystery was going to go because there were many turns in the plot to keep you guessing. Definitely a page-turner and I could imagine this making a good film or mini series.

The dialogue is sharp and witty with a dizzy, energetic plot to keep you on a rollercoaster ride of suspense. The main plot involves a missing fashion designer but there are many subplots that skillfully intertwine. The only complaint I have is that I had to read it too quickly! And I'll be watching out for the next Amber Fox novel.

If you love Janet Evanovich you'll love this.

Great read, funny in a Stephanie Plum way. Too little originality though. A rip off of Janet Evanowich - competing police boyfriend and hot boss, mad family members! Read more
