You can't help but love this CD! And the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you. There isn't a duff song on the album, and it's great fun to sing along to. One of my favourite albums of all time, and I've got lots of my friends hooked on it too. The lyrics are well written, the music is so different to anything else around at the moment, and the singer's voice is really quirky - his timing is brilliant. Great fun listening!

This Album is purely sensational, although sensational's probably not the right word. It's great anyhow and you should buy it, here are some reasons why:
1. It's like nothing you've heard before.
2. It's Rock, Funk, Latin, Country, and bits of other flavours all rolled into one.
3. You'll like it too and you'll tell all your friends about it and then write an on-line review of it like this saying how I was right.
4. The lyrics are amazing. It could take years to fully understand what they really mean. There are so many metaphors and complicated words that if John McCrea (Lead Singer) came up to you and said "hello" you'd spend half an hour trying to think about it.
5. You won't put it down. It won't fall to the back of your CD collecion. It'll always be there for you.
6. I haven't seen a single bad review of it.
7. You should read the Amazon.com reviews. The Americans can't get enough of it.
8. I'm sick of commercial bands and although you wouldn't usually associate this with Indie bands like Stereophonics etc. because their music is so different, that's just what it is.
9. It's only rock and roll but I like it.
10. Admit it you can afford it. You never know, it might become you're desert island disc.
Your birthday cake's usually gone within a week but this will last for a long long time.
Purchase.

A friend introduced me to Cake via their wonderful cover of "I Will Survive".. and I haven't looked back since. I've bought all two other albums, but this one remains my favourite. The reviews below say it all really, but for my twopennyworth they are the most aurally pleasing band I have come across for quite a while. Barely a week goes by when I don't listen to this album, and feel twice as happy for it. Kind of like a really good carrot cake. But come on guys - isn't it about time you gave us some more ?

I love this band - I love this album, in fact I love all their albums so this will clearly be a gushing and biased review. I urge anyone with ears to seek out and listen to this rip-roaring ball-busting album and even if you are sans ears then please, seek out this band and treat yourself to an aural bikini clad mud fight. Then go and buy the rest of their truly excellent back catalogue, I don't even want royalties for this endorsememt.
There is such a wide variety of sounds, melodies, riffs and funk its hard to know where to begin. Lets take some tracks and break 'em down.
'Frank Sinatra' will make you wet the bed each night. 'The Distance' will whisk your brain into a souffle. Their cover of Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive' will make you cry tears of Lambrini whilst creating a kerfuffle in your y-fronts. 'Perhaps..' will make you see the ghost of Whistler's Mother when you close your eyes. 'Italian Leather Sofa' will make you want to get intimate with farm yard animals and last but not least their songs will turn you on to country music. All these things are plus points, they are the reason for living.

Every song is excellent. brilliant bass lines (the distance), mean guitar (open book). very original style (countryish-but sooooooooooo much better) with unique lyrics. the covers (perhaps perhaps and i will survive) are extremely cool as are the trumpets and piano on the album. you are missing out on something if u dont buy it

Fashion Nugget is full of songs that will make you want to smile and to sing-a-long. It's clever, fun and querky, blending a range of styles from disco (Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive), to easy listing (Doris Day - Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps) to a little bit of country (Sad Songs and Waltzes) and light-hearted guitar-pop (Stick Shifts & Safety Belts, Italian Leather Sofa) into an inventive and entertaining pop album.
