As a fashion student this is one of the best books I own. The book is packed with photo's taken as musuem photo's rather then fashion shots. This means you get clear, close up detailed shots of the garments, which range from the 18th century to present. The selection of garments featured is huge, with something for everyone (from issey miyake to 18th century pearl inlayed shoe heels!). A MUST buy, and amazing value for money!

A fabulous book for anyone interested in either a history of Fashion or costume design. This book is great because it features items from a museum collection - and if you're unlikely to go to Japan to see it for yourself this is a great alternative!

Not only full length photos, but also lots of very close up shots showing the intricate detail which has gone into some pieces in the collection.

There are about 500 full colour photographs, showing all sorts of items of clothing from French 'rococo' designs right through the 1960's to (almost) present day. The book features mostly womens clothes but a few mens as well.

Printed on great quality paper and in a nice firm paperback cover this book would be a great gift for anyone interested in Clothes and Fashion. Also a great resource for Students.

I like the way the older 'period' costumes are shown piece by piece - so you can see what (very uncomfortable looking!) underwear was worn to give the fabulous dresses their shape, and also how the elements were put together - very helpful when trying to make a replica outfit!

A really great buy.

A Wonderfull Book 9 Oct 2004
Format:Hardcover
I have many books on fashion and costume and this is one of the best which shows actual garments. The display of the garments and the photography are superb in a beautifully produced, quality book. The impression given is that the clothes are worn by models rather than hung on tailors dummies. I couldn't believe the price! It looks as though it should be in the £25-£40 bracket. Although about 500 items are shown, this would seem to be only a small part of the collection - I hope the producers will consider doing a second book.
