About the Author

Hywel Davies is a freelance fashion writer based in London. After studying Fashion Communication and Promotion at Central Saint Martins, Hywel worked for an international mix of magazines and newspapers. Previously the fashion editor at Sleazenation, he has also written for Arena, Vogue, ELLE, Wallpaper, Nylon, Dazed & Confused, Fashion Inc, Grafik, Time Out, The Guardian, The Sunday Telegraph, The Financial Times, The Observer, The Independent and SHOWstudio. Hywel is a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Communication and Promotion at Central St Martins, and has also lectured at London College of Fashion and the Royal College of Art. He is the author of Modern Menswear, 100 New Fashion Designers and British Fashion Designers, all published by Laurence King.

This is a great book to buy, it gives you an insight into designers and how they work in the interviews. It's also great to see the designers final designs against the original sketches.

i love looking at other peoples sketchbooks to see how they think and interpret their ideas, so i brought this book and its really impressive. also there are interviews with the designers which is a great read and helpful.

This is a really good book for students and designers alike, because it is vividly explained and illustrated. The research process, which should go beyond a moodboard, is clearly laid out in this book and the reader can get a fantastic view into the designers' mind. It can give students a great visual and on what to include in your sketchbook and how to make your research more concise, precise and relevant to your collection.

It was fun to look through this book once, but a lot of designers were too avant-garde for my taste. In addition, I was hoping for more famous names. Even so, it is a good resource to flip through for a creativity infusion.
