Synopsis

Fashion drawing is an essential skill used by fashion designers to visually communicate clothing designs and trends. In clear and easy-to-follow points, this book progressively guides the student through key fashion drawing and design techniques. From basic oval and triangle figure templates, the student quickly progresses along the drawing skills learning curve to produce creative illustrations, which are developed into professional and dynamic presentations and design portfolios. The text is supported with explanatory drawings and photographs of the fashion model, together with plenty of exercises and artwork from designers and illustrators around the world. The book encourages the student to develop a personal, artistic style within the accepted design standards used in the fashion industry, preparing them for a career in design. This is a highly effective textbook, suitable both for class use and self-teaching.

5.0 out of 5 stars up to date and very informative 10 Aug 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I am currently a 3rd year fashion student and was optimistic about this book thinking it would be aimed at a basic level although it does present simple exercises in drawing etc, it is effective and offers a way in which you can improve in all areas of 2d fashion design. The book contains fashion figure templates for mens, womens and childernswear design. It is a very recent publication and is very up to date on the subject of fashion even listing trade publications and other useful information . It also presents other peoples work as examples which i found quite helpful as it displays a wealth of styles and alows you to compare your own work. It guides you through the design process from mood boards, specification and c.a.d. although it is not a manual how to use fashion programs it presents c.a.d. as a tool which can be utilised to your advantage presenting the posibilities . This book is a must for anyone looking to improve there 2d skills and portfolio and it is at a good price too; top marks

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for all fashion students! 22 Nov 2006
Format:Paperback
What a great book!! It got me sketching fashion figures so

quickly...even the faces and hands!!! It took the mystery out of fashion

illustration, and has made me feel full of confidence to develop my

drawing skills further. I want to be a menswear designer and it has a

great section on sketching men as well. And I found the section on

getting my portfolio together really helpful. Fantastic for fashion

students everywhere!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it! 6 May 2007
Format:Paperback
I love it! This book has been the answer to all my fashion drawing dilemmas. It explains techniques of fashion drawing and fashion design in really simple, basic steps that everyone can understand even if they have never picked up a pencil!

It shows you how to draw female and male poses, and even has a section on children and costume design! Faces, hands and feet were my nightmare and, using simple exercises and sketches, this book has made it all so easy.

It has excellent illustrations and fashion drawings, clothing/flats, fashion figures and templates. And the presentation chapter and portfolio chapters are really helpful. Every page is an inspiration! Buy this book now and, like me, I am sure you will never regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous book............a must have! 28 Mar 2007
Format:Paperback
If you are studying fashion or want to be a fashion designer you have to be able to draw reasonably well and meet fashion industry standards. This book makes drawing fashion figures, faces, hands, feet and clothing all so straightforward and simple. And the chapters on creating presentations and your design portfolio are also really important if you are serious about entering the fashion industry!

Every page is full of images - drawing techniques, drawing exercises, fashion illustrations and fashion designs. It has explanatory text, but not too much, just the right amount so that you can get on with the creative side of fashion drawing and illustration.

It really is a fabulous book.......a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners 18 Nov 2008
By Azure82
Format:Paperback
Having little experience with drawing people I found this book fantastic - it goes through step by step how to create a range of fashion figures by firstly breaking the body up into portions and using set rules of proportion to create a figure using circles, triangles and oval shapes. It then goes on to 'flesh' the body out and then finally goes on to adding the clothes. it also has a section of faces, hands and feet which was useful. After doing a couple of these exercises I found that I could practice drawing people from fashion magazines with relative ease (they previously looked terrible) just by applying the rules learnt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fashion Artist Highly Recommended 12 Feb 2006
Format:Paperback
Fashion Artist has helped me sketch fashion illustrations really easily…it sets out simple techniques, and is especially useful for those of us who find drawing difficult. It has shown me how to draw the fashion figure, as well as the face and hands, really simply and develop a few poses which I can use and adapt for all my fashion projects. It even demonstrates drawing men and children and costume design...very useful.
It includes lots of cool images/fashion designs/illustrations from various designers and illustrators which I find inspiring and has encouraged me to develop my own style of drawing. It has also helped me think about my portfolio and how to prepare it for the fashion industry.
I would recommend this book to all fashion students. It is really informative and inspiring.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool for non-designers 16 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
I bought this book for my daughter, who is about to start a University degree course in Fashion Communication. She would admit to not being in any way blessed with artistic skills, but she tells me that the book is ideal for someone who wants (or needs) to start developing an ability or interest in design as an 'add-on'. Once acquired, the basics can potentially be improved to the desired level, and it does no harm to have an appreciation of the skills others bring into the mix.
