He's got the blues,
By Pripp "A Lunatic" (Sweden) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Faro Annie (Audio CD)
This is John Renbourns most blues influental album, but a very English one. Backed by the Pentangle rythm section of Terry Cox and Danny Thompson, this is the album that remind me most of his work with Bert Jansch & Co. So if anyone thought of Renbourn as "academic", this is a testament and proof that you should reconsider your opinion.

Faroe Annie, John Renbourne - Heartfelt music,
By
This review is from: Faro Annie (Audio CD)
As always with a John Renbourne album, this is a set of heartfelt tracks, into which he has poured his heart and soul.
I was a little surprised listening to this. I am more familiar with his later work, largely instrumental albums that synthesise early baroque and English folk music such as `Ship of Fools'. I was expecting largely more of the same, but this early album finds Renbourne still trying to settle to a musical identity. There are elements of the folk and early music, but overlaid with Guthrie style protest songs and blues, with the odd sitar thrown in. What surprised me more were the vocals, Renbourne usually lets his guitar do the talking, I was not expecting to hear him sing. It's a good voice, well suited to the style of music, and he brings forth an emotional intensity that is quite captivating at times. An excellent album, one I would recommend to all fans of the Guthrie/Dylan folk style.

Acoustic master at his best,
By Chris "Chris" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Faro Annie (Audio CD)
My personal favorite of Mr. Renbourn's repertoire. Incomparable acoustic guitar (and very nice electric too) on largely traditional offerings, with his understated vocals (and some Pentangle company backup) that enhance the overall quality. Very bluesey; "Kokomo Blues" and "Country Blues" are beautiful. Americana blues of a bygone era by a (another) British Islander never sounded so good.

Hats Off To Mr Renborn,
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Faro Annie (Audio CD)
John Renborn, perhaps the quintessential British folkie renders a most American offering. Just check out the titles, White House Blues, Kokomo Blues, Buffalo Skinners. Why Hell, you'd think this chap was raised in the Black Hills of Kentucky. But give credit where credit is due, he pulls it off, while at the same time remaining true to his own Limie roots. Hats off to John Renborn for a showing the Yanks just what's he's made of.

John Renbourn,
By Norman E. Derouin "Normand" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Faro Annie (Audio CD)
This artist is a master of UK folk acoustic guitar. This cd replaces an old record. Check out Renbourn's work with The Pentangle. Make this effort a 4.3
