Book Description

July 2010

"Wickedly funny."
-Kirkus

A witty, beloved novel of heart and heartland, Farm Fatale skewers the culture clash of city vs. country in the snappy, observant style that made Wendy Holden famous.

Cash-strapped Rosie and her boyfriend Mark are city folk longing for a country cottage. Rampant nouveaux riches Samantha and Guy are also searching for rustic bliss-in the biggest mansion money can buy. The village of Eight Mile Bottom seems quiet enough, despite a nosy postman, a reclusive rock star, a glamorous Bond Girl, and a ghost with a knife in its back. But there are unexpected thrills in the hills, and Rosie is rapidly discovering that country life isn't so simple after all.

"This lighthearted romp, surprisingly unpredictable, smart, and fun, is refreshing fare readers can turn to."
-Publishers Weekly
"Every character here is deliciously ridiculous, and every rustic detail a grand satirical opportunity."
-Baltimore Sun
"Wendy Holden writes with delicious verve and energy."
-Mail on Sunday

5.0 out of 5 stars "...and the church bells struck sixteen..." 22 April 2007
By Kona TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
Artist Rosie hates the noise, crowds, and pressure of living in her cramped London flat, and longs to live in a cozy old cottage nestled in a picturesque village, full of quaint, friendly folk. Her city-loving boyfriend finally agrees to move to the country, and they settle in the town of Eight-Mile Bottom, where a handsome farmer, a reclusive rock star, and some comic locals will change her life forever.

Told from Rosie's point of view, the story is very funny and at times, quite touching. It's easy to identify with her longing for love and fulfillment, as she charges full-steam ahead in pursuit of her dreams. Sometimes we wish Rosie made better choices, but it's a journey that will put a smile on your face. The story proceeds at a leisurely pace, with plenty of time to get to know all the fascinating characters that live in the village, from the nosy mailman to the hippie family next door. The narrative is full of British idioms and references that add flavor and humor; an audio book would definitely be fun to listen to, and, I think it would make a great movie.

"Farm Fatale" is a witty, hip, gossipy fish-out-of-water story that you won't want to put down. Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars SAME BOOK AS PASTURES NOUVEAUX! 3 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
What a croc! I waited for this book to be "released" only to have it arrive and find it's the same book as Pastures Nouveax - only renamed & recovered! Obviously a waste of money if you've been reading Wendy's other work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Farm Fatale 24 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
A great light read...BUT....don't make the mistake that I did! I bought this title not realising that it had previously been released under the title "Pastures Nouveaux"...and I had already read it. Funny and light none the less.

3.0 out of 5 stars Farm Fatale / Pastures Nouveaux 7 Mar 2013
By Louise
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Been caught out twice by this author with her books being re-named.

Farm Fatale is the same book as Pastures Nouveaux.

If you like Wendy Holden books don't be caught out with Fame Fatale and Gossip Hound as these are the same too. Very frustrating.
