This cake tester serves its purpose most of the time, however, it can be a bit misleading whenever I bake bread. However, for cakes, yes, it does a great testing job. Worth the money!

Very prompt delivery and packaged adequately. However the plastic at the top of the skewer is very flimsy and poorly attached. Im afraid it wont last very long in a drawer with other kitchen utensils.

This very basic tester helps to indicate whether your cake (or tart, etc) is cooked. The tester consists of a very thin metal rod (not much bigger than a needle) with a plastic grip at the end; if the rod comes out clean, then your cake is done and if not, then you need to leave it in the oven a little longer. It does provide a useful second opinion if you are not a regular cake maker (I am not), but do be slightly wary of totally relying on it as I have received a false result once or twice over time. You can test by using a knife instead, but that tends to show up more than the resulting pin-prick left by this item.

The rod is not particularly strong and mine has bent a little bit over time, but not to the extent that it can no longer be used for cake-testing purposes.

I have also used mine to clean the pipes of my coffee machine - it clears blockages very effectively; I suspect that might be why it has bent...

Overall, it is an inexpensive and useful tool that can help you to decide whether your baking is ready to come out of the oven. It can also prove useful for cleaning coffee machines (and any other blocked pipe situations).

I had resisted buying a cake tester. It seemed a bit extravagant when I had been using a knife for years, but this is great and doesn't leave big holes!

Arrived on time. No problem with the service but the product itself could be a bit better. It's a bit too thin for it's purpose. I find it's better to use it to prod holes in cakes to be able to drizzle liquid in -such as lemon drizzle. Then again, for the price I wouldn't expect it to be perfect.

As much as I think cake testers should be thin, this one is a little too thin and may not always indicate the correct result when pulled out of the cake. It was also flimsy, and impossible to use in oven gloves.

Cakes are generally cooked when they are pulling away from the sides, and a tester inserted into the middle comes out clean. This depends on what ingredients you are using- a chocolate chip may provided a false result. Any mixture on the tester then the cake is not cooked through and should be returned to the oven for ten minute intervals.

Though they can be detemental to the result, I'd recommend buying a pack of skewers and putting one aside for baking purposes only, they're thicker, easier to hold and have the ability to test the bottom of fairly deep cakes.

The item was a lot smaller than it appeared and is not really suitable for testing cakes... the spike is very thin and flexible and bends easily, the surface area of the spike is too small for the cakemix to be visible in a partially cooked cake and the handle part is flimsy... buy a skewer instead. the packaging was damaged on arrival (card backing torn and folded over on itself to fit in a small package) so unsuitable for a gift. I did not contact seller as I wished to use it straight away but found it inadequate...

The metal rod on this tester is 5.5" and with the round plastic disc top has a total length of 7.5" which is much better than the one I used to use especially when making Christmas cakes or deep gateaus. A very cheap item that does a perfect job - excellent.
