Product Description

“That was the first time in my life I was happy…the happiest I ever would be. And I never told you.”

There’s always one moment in life that passes without you saying what you really wanted – needed – to. For Ruth that day came after the death of her beloved husband Trip.

She and Trip had fitted together perfectly, right from the very start, and their marriage was filled with love, happiness and travel. Determined to leave nothing unspoken, Trip has left ten letters, taking Ruth on one last adventure - scattering his ashes in ten locations that have meaning for them both.

The letters take her on a journey across the world, but also back through her marriage, and the life she thought they had shared.

They had been so happy. Hadn’t they?

At once heart-breaking and uplifting …prepare to smile through your tears. Farewell Trip is a must read.

Praise for Karin Dixon and Gary Twynam

‘A lovely, warm and affectionate read that I devoured in one sitting’Bleach House Library

'I very much enjoyed Farewell Trip, I enjoyed getting to know Ruth and Trip, I enjoyed reading about their lives together and of their memories in some wonderful places.' - Chick Lit Reviews

' It was so beautiful, so emotionally charged and damn hard to carry on at some points... It is a beautifully written love story which will stay with me for a very long time. I loved every aspect about it, from the characters to the places that Ruth travels too, and it was such a fantastic adventure, I'd definitely go on again someday.' - Becca's Books 10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving story. A must-read 17 Dec 2013
By Molly
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a moving story about grief, loss, and the discovery of who you are when you are no longer part of a whole. I loved reading this sad, funny, intensely human book. A must-read for men and women alike, a wonderful debut novel

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Trip 18 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Farewell Trip is a thoroughly enjoyable journey. I really rattled through the book. I should have been doing other things, but had to keep going and find out what happened next, and what would happen in the end. Ruth is reliving memories from her long and happy marriage to Trip by travelling around the world, going to places that meant a lot to them both, and scattering his ashes. The locations have been selected by Trip, and each destination has an accompanying letter as Trip puts down his feelings to the love of his life. The story blends the present, Ruth's journey, with the past, their time together in each of those places, while Trip's letters give us an insight to his own reflections on their lives together, and Ruth's voyage of discovery also reveals some secrets from the past and presents some signposts towards her future. We learn about their relationships with each other, and also with their friends and families over the years.
The format seems to lend itself perfectly to collaborative writing by a male and female author, giving an authenticity to their characters. The story spans five decades as well as several locations, appealing a little to the nostalgist in me as well as the traveller.
I was captivated, uplifted, at times a little teary, and thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it, and look forward to reading more from the authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning! 18 Dec 2013
By Slim
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a cracking read! I found myself unable to put this down, always wanting to know what happens next (or in some chapters, what happened in the past). The dual author device really works - you can literally hear two distinct voices. Great plot and characters - more please!

I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's a cracking read - funny, wise, sad, quirky, sexy, endearing and poignant (the new seven dwarves?). It's beautifully written, and also intriguing at many levels. READ THIS BOOK.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!!! 18 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
It is not often that I take time out to write reviews (in fact this is only my second time) but this book has moved me to do just that. It is a superb read from beginning to end. I was totally enthralled. It made my daily commute more enjoyable - it was just a pity that the book had to end

5.0 out of 5 stars More Lit than Chick 18 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Recommended by a friend and purchased despite some concerns about the 'smiling through your tears' description. This might be described as Chick Lit, but it is really well written, conveying a sense of gender and the passing of time, changing places and emotions. A proper intelligent read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Beautiful. A Must Read! 19 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This wonderful journey through time, expressed via the lives and minds of Ruth and Trip is incredibly addictive. I simply could not put it down and completed it in a day!

The characters are heartbreakingly honest, intriguing and the story is open, realistic and sometimes brutally emotive.

I laughed out loud, I blubbered like a baby and I don't regret a minute of it!

Do yourself a favor and buy this book!

Definitely much more than a work of chick lit. Intelligent, funny and very well written. I laughed, I squirmed, I cried. I finished it - and then read it all over again. Fab!
