I have read much better travel books. This was mildly funny and interesting but certainly didn't captivate me. With Thailand being such a wonderful, diverse country I would have expected more.

very dissapointed 20 Oct 2008
Format:Paperback
i have read most books on thailand by expats and i can say that this is one of the most dissapointing, i failed to laugh at any of the writers attempts at humour, i was also abit shocked when he started talking about the bar girls in Pattaya and saying how all they are interested in is your money and what have you, yet he himself has a wife only half his age and constantly remarks throughout the book about how much he has to keep giving her money and providing things for her.

i found him to be very cynical and basically unfunny, he hasn't really got anything to say in the book of any importance apart from his own opinions on things which i mostly didn't agree with, and most chapters he just rambles on about his own career as a docter and what not, in fact about half of the book he doesn't even talk about Thailand.

don't waste you time with this, there are many good books out there about expats living in Thailand, don't waste your money on this, you will be bored.

Thailand Farang 21 Sep 2007
Format:Paperback
Have to say I loved this book, made me lol at times but what gets me the most is the way "The Doc" looks at life with good humour and "This is Thailand" without getting jaded.I'm 45 years old and have decided when I grow up I want to be just like "The Doc" I'm giving this book 5 stars and should be noted as a "must read" if going to the land of smiles...

Genuine expat experiences
This guy had really lived the live in Bangkok and Pattaya. Humorous and easy reading, buy, laugh and enjoy. Btw. remember, you need two spirit houses! ;)

short story anyone?
This book is a collection of short stories and not a travel log as such.
Seeing as the guy writes for a local paper i would say they are old paper cuttings. Read more

Farang: Thailand through the eyes of an expat
I am not one for reading but I could not put the book down. I found it very light hearted and interesting

Thailand - fascinating, kind of crazy, yet captivating
The author's account of his experiences in Thailand as the husband of a Thai wife is both informative and hilarious. His style is an example of dry humour at its best.

Not bad - needs editing
One of the previous reviewers has pointed out the good things in the book: the fast pace, the short chapters, the lively stories. I agree. Read more
