4.0 out of 5 stars The return of Fantomcat! (At last!) 7 April 2009

Those of you who grew up watching CITV in the afternoons before its demise might remember this particular cartoon. It followed the adventures of Fantomcat. A noble hero, with one of the most ridiculously long names ever produce by a cartoon, trapped in a painting for 300 years, wakes up to find a very different world. Helped by detectives McDuff (a mouse with a fear of small dark holes), Lindbergh (a pigeon with a fear of heights) and Tabby Wildcat (a cat with almost no fear at all), Fantomcat tries to save this strange new world from even stranger enemies than he's faced before.
This show was more of a cult hit than a blockbuster but it still has the same charm and humour I loved it for when I was younger. I do wish they'd bring out more on each DVD though as there were two (short) seasons to this story but this is the first attempt for a cartoon I thought would be lost to a lack of interest.
If you remember this lost classic, then I do recommend giving this a try.

As far as I know you can only get series 1, eps 1 and 2, eps 3 and 4 on DVD -
It's quite fun. We have a gallant hero from the past frozen in time by dire skullduggery brought forward to the present....

Metro City needs him! The name "FantomCat" may well be inspired by the old "Fantomas" serials, our hero is certainly suave, gallant etc as heros should be -
as I say, it's quite fun and considerably in advance of some childrens cartoons produced now. As you'd expect from Cosgrove Hall the animation is good. At the price, it's a steal!
