Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Word War II was the greatest mobilization of fighting men and machines that the world has ever seen; tanks and soldiers combined into a veritable tide of iron that changed the world. Now, the largest and deadliest conflict in history comes to your tabletop in Fantasy Flight’s game of World War II squad-level tactics!

Tide of Iron is a board game that places 2-4 players in command of their own divisions of fighting men and machines in the most important conflict in the world's history. Your brave soldiers will capture and hold objectives, lay down covering fire, and with a bit of determination and luck, they will emerge victorious.

The Tide of Iron base game focuses on the American and German armies in Northern Europe in the years 1944 and 1945. Each game is played as a single scenario, either chosen from the included scenario guide or created by the players themselves. The game play is fast-paced, smooth, and surprisingly deep, as players must take and hold vital objectives on the game board and decide how best to use each and every unit under their command.

Featuring hundreds of detailed plastic figures, including soldiers, tanks, and other combat vehicles, Tide of Iron offers rules that focus on realistically simulating squad-level combat, but are streamlined enough to appeal to casual board gamers. Tide of Iron also features twelve modular game boards that can be reset to customize your playing experience every time. Up to 4 players (divided into 2 teams) can test their tactical prowess in dozens of scenarios, meaning a wealth of replay ability.

tide of plastic 2 May 2008

Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I've heard this product described as Tide of Plastic...and it is very true. This game comes with a huge number of litle plastic pieces. Luckily, they are all really well done. This is a fun game to play. Set up for a normal game is about 30 minutes and the games themselves last from one to two hours. If you're looking for a quick pick up and play game, this really isn't it. Strategy is a huge part of how you set up your pieces, so that is why setup is so long. As you become more familiar with each unit's strengths and weaknesses, setup time will probably be cut in half. One thing to note is that many of the basic scenarios that come with the game seem to be too one sided, with one of the armies seemingly unable to win, based on how the mission is made. I don't really have a problem with this, it seems to make the historical mission more accurate in my opinion. Tide of Iron is a super fun war game and its play mechanics are more accessible than more hardcore games in the genre. I recommend it.

Excellent wargame. Detailed enough to be entertaining for the wargame buff, but simple enough to not be bogged down in unnecessary 'realism' that turns away those who are casual game players.

Excellent game 20 May 2008
By Jose Gomez - Published on Amazon.com
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I have just recived this game we played for about 6 hours. The game is difficult to learn, but the rules are very complete. After a few hours we started to get the hang of this game, i would recomend this game only to hardcore gamers, this is not a game for the family. The rules are extreamly complicated, but after u master the rules i think its a great game
