Product Description

The resurgence of interest in fantasy art sees some of the finest, freshest and most exciting talents in the world of fantasy illustration brought together for the first time in one luxurious showcase volume, Fantasy Art Now. Creators from across the globe are represented in a book that looks forward rather than back in its approach to fantasy art. Clint Langley, Greg Staples, Glenn Fabry, James Rayman, Linda Bergkvist, Liam Sharp, Jason Chan, Aly Fell, Aaron Sng and Robert Chang are just a few of the new generation of fantasy artists included. This is not a book of retrospectives, but examines what illustrators and painters are creating now whether its for the latest graphic novel, book cover, trading card set or computer game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book of contemporary fantasy art, 8 Jan 2008

I bought this recently as I have a long-standing interest in fantasy art, and was pleased to find a wide range of fantasy art, displaying both traditional and digital works. I really liked the way the book was categorised into different sections; I think this is useful for both people who are using the book for inspiration for their own work as well as those who just want to look at it, as you can skip to your favourite subject without having to hunt around. The pictures come with captions including the method used and websites of the artists, as well as information about how the image was formed. The images are well sized, with some taking up 1 or 2 pages, and the paper used is also nice and glossy, giving it a professional look. It's very well presented and easy to read through.
Overall it's lovely to be able to sit down and look through a whole series of beautiful fantasy works (without the glare of a monitor for a change) in a book that doesn't just focus on digital works and showcases some brilliant work from both new artists and veterans of the genre. The only things I would change are to have a few more traditional artists featured (though I realise they can be hard to find) and more works displayed larger, but I'm also very happy with it the way it is. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary Fantasy Art, 1 May 2009

A well laid out and descriptive book, showing a broad range of styles and techniques. A good reference book for anyone interested in Fantacy Art. There is a good balance of digital images and paintings using traditional methods.

3.0 out of 5 stars Caveat emptor, 15 Mar 2008
By Bob Nolin - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Fantasy Art Now: The Very Best in Contemporary Fantasy Art & Illustration (Hardcover)
While the product description claims the book features "leading fantasy artists and rising stars," the bulk of the works here are by the latter. Comparable work is easily found all over the internet, which is where I'm guessing the author found it, himself. The nice thing for him: unknown artists come cheap, if not free. The nice thing for the artists: obviously, exposure. What this means for the reader: pass, or pick it up cheap used, here on Amazon.

2.0 out of 5 stars not the best in fantasy art now, 23 Dec 2008
By Edward A. Schatz "architectural archivist" - Published on Amazon.com
This book while packaged very attractively, just does not measure up to the count. Most of these are unknown artists and in the infancy of their careers, the occasional exception might be Tony DeTerlizi (?). Save your money, look elsewhere or get it really cheap, not an important volume, one can do without this in their collection.

The work in this book of illustrations are absolutely amazing. The imaginations of these artists are beyond all boundaries.
