About the Author

Mich Turner’s pioneering work in the world of creative cake decoration means she is often described as the queen of couture cakes. She originally trained as a Food Scientist and was Patisserie Buyer at Harvey Nichols before founding her hugely successful Little Venice Cake Company in 1999. Mich’s bespoke classic and contemporary creations have graced the table of her Majesty the Queen, Madonna, Pierce Brosnan, Paul McCartney, Cheryl Cole and David Beckham. It’s no wonder then that Vogue, Tatler and Stella magazines regularly feature her delicious designs. Mich has also been a consultant to numerous TV shows, including Heston Blumenthal’s Feast, Rachel Allen’s Bake!, Kirstie’s Homemade Home and of course her own series, Couture Cakes. As a leading authority on special occasion cakes, Mich runs successful masterclasses around the world aimed at all levels of ability. She was Harpers Bazaar and Chanel Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 and is the author of four highly successful books: Spectacular Cakes (best Dessert Book, Gourmand World Cookbook Awards), Fantastic Party Cakes, Couture Wedding Cakes and Cake Masterclass (best book for food professionals, Gourmand World Cookbook Awards). Little Venice Cake Company Celebration Cakes are available under licence in Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Tesco, providing the opportunity to sample the luxury of LVCC at a price point all can afford. LVCC already provides couture cakes exclusively for Harrods. In 2010 Mich was awarded an MBE for her outstanding services to the Catering Industry and in 2011, Little Venice Cake Company launched a new international range of cake baking and decorating equipment and Mich launched a range of edibles in conjunction with Silver Spoon. Both ranges are set to expand in 2012.

Following Mich Turner's first amazing book 'Spectacular Cakes' I eagerly awaited her second book 'Fantastic Party Cakes' - and it IS fantastic. Superb, easy to follow, inspirational recipes that make you want to get baking immediately, plus great photography. I like the personal introductions to each recipe and suggestions for different bases and flavours. Mich Turner is at the very top of her profession and it shows in this her second book.

I borrowed this from my local library and i certainly wouldn't buy it, at least not unless far cheaper and in paperback. The problem is who is it aimed at? There are some basic decorating ideas but the book is not particualrly aimed at avid cake decorators, such as myself. The ideas and themes are very similar to many of those in 'Spectacular cakes' which i also have and very highly rate. This book contains many recipes for cakes, those i tried are delicious. It is well laid out and has helpful information such as storage instructions and there are photographs for each cake. The book is divided into chapters, decorated delights are individual cakes, the coconut butterflies are unusual and did appeal to me. Then small party cakes, including a cherry blossom design, little venice lace and some children's cakes and christmas which are decidedly average. The section on delicious treats focuses on receipes for cakes which need little (if any) decorations, and delicious they were, eg lime and coconut, bananna butterscotch, sticky date, almond and chocolate. Fluffy desserts are cheesecakes, meringues and roulades and there is a small cookies and pastries section. The book ends with a clear techniques section and the templates. Maybe a good book for a beginner or just someone who wants some pretty cakes for a celebration.

I would say this is a book for the more advanced cake maker and decorator. I love a challenge and this book provides that in spades!! I love it!! Just wish Mich had provided at least two more cake recipes. I made some small cakes from this book for a friend and she was very impressed and delighted with them. This is one book I'm very glad I bought.

Oh god, what are you talking about 3 star reviewers???!!! I love this book, as does my mother - it's a great read and a great source of inspiration. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for something just a little bit different to the usual flowers, piping and fondant modeling you get in other books.

Lovely presentation, thoroughly enjoyed my first browse and I am delighted I decided to buy this book - it's bang up to date, has very good technique instruction and pictures plus some excellent recipes. I haven't as yet managed to track down "fondant powder" or quite worked out the requirement of 1kg of glucose syrup for the chocolate plastique (my supermarket only sells small 140 gr tubes of it!!) Hopefully a quick phone call to Little Venice cake Co. will provide the answer. This book is definitely going to be extremely well used, a book for me to work with and expand on.
Thank you Mich.

This book is great! The recipes are amazing - yet again. Mitch really knows how to make a great cake. I thoroughly recommend the book even if it is for the cakes recipes and nothing else!
The ideas for decorating etc the cakes are also excellent. Most are very simple, but the looks are spectacular.
It is a very diffent type of book to Spectacular Cakes, so making it worthwhile to have both, and the cake recipes are all different, so there is no repetition. Great!
