Wonderful movie and wonderful soundtrack. It isn't often that a movie and its soundtrack become inexorably linked (examples would be '2001 : A Space Odyssey', 'O Brother, Where Art Thou' - but to name a few), but this is certainly one of them. Desplat captures perfectly the vivid visual concept behind the movie, and then adds some. My only gripe - and it is perhaps an unreasonable one (in which case it should be 5 stars and not 4!)- is that much, if not all, of Desplat's compositions are limited in length and not extended in this soundtrack. A good example is 'Mr. Fox in the Fields', a lovely Copland-esque piece of magic that cries out (IMHO) to be developed. But a must-have for those that enjoyed the movie.

As is normally the case with Wes Anderson's films, the soundtrack is far superior to the film itself, and a lot more enjoyable. The Darjeeling Limited is a prime example of that. I listened to that cd endlessly but only felt the need to see the actual film once.
I don't dislike his movies at all, but without these fantastically eclectic scores and exciting song choices the films would fall slightly flat.

Stunning. This eclectic mix of music could never be found in any other way. It has The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys,The Bobby Fuller Four, the Davy Crockett theme, the love song from Disney's Robin Hood...need i go on? It gets crazier and crazier, and yet together it makes for one of the best Soundtrack CDs in existence. I cannot shout loud enough for you to get this: it was simply my favourite film of the year (and now my fourth favourite ever!)and now remains my favourite soundtrack collection. Simply nuts, just how good this CD is. And wonderful when someone asks you to explain it, because its impossible.
What kind of music is it? Odd! AND SUBLIME AS A RESULT.
