For those who are familiar with Chromeo already, all you need to know is that this is very similar to their debut album, although it's actually an improvement with better song writing and more varied beats.
For those new to Chromeo then prepare to step back into the eighties! It would be easy to dismiss Chromeo as 'novelty', with the often slightly tonque-in-cheek lyrics, but therein lies the genius. It borders on being cheesy but it never crosses that line because it's not trying to be something it's not, and doesn't take itself too seriously (which is what sets them apart) - this is for those open-minded individuals who know the best music isn't 'pop'. This is just two guys with keyboards who have clearly become a little too taken with the 80s, creating funky little songs that entertain both the head and feet. Bonafied Lovin is the standout track with that guitar riff and perfectly executed beats and cooly delivered vocals.
This album is as absurd as 80s group Five Star whilst being as fun-lovin as early Scissor Sisters with beats similar to those found in Madonna's Like A Virgin album.
In what was another poor year for music, this was one of the few shining lights, so give it a spin. Hey! lighten-up! it's Chromeo :)
