Forrest J Ackerman became almost as famous as some of the people he loved to write about in his long-running "Famous Monsters" magazine. His home became a place that horror and science fiction fans would visit, a pilgrimage to meet the man himself, and to see his huge collection of memorabilia. He comes across as a kind person, more than happy to show his collection to visitors, and to tell of his many meetings with stars of the screen and of literature. I still remember the magazine, and his puns in the titles. The magazine sold in such large numbers that it became a part of countless young lives from the 1950s onwards, and is still fondly remembered.
This is a poignant tribute to a lovely man who I am sure left many sad fans when he passed away a few years ago. Extra features include interviews with fans and some actors and people associated with the hobby of collecting horror memorabilia. It was interesting to see a chat with the actress Carla Laemmle, who is still living, now aged over 100, and who must surely be the last living link to old classics such as Phantom of the Opera, and Dracula.
