Product Description

Product Description

The graves of the famous are of abiding interest both in the individuals who are buried and the location of their final resting places. This book details nearly 1000 graves of famous Britons at home and abroad. The text helps the reader to locate specific grages, and features a comprehensive and easy to use index, an introduction to the history of burial and cremation practices, and a glossary explaining obscure funeral terms.

If, like me, you have ever wondered where famous people are buried primarily in the UK then this is the ideal book. Listed by each county through the book and indexed in the back by name alphabetically you can find out if anyone of notoriety is buried near to you or look up a particular person. Lots of pictures and descriptions of the graves and where to find them in the graveyards. Also includes the locations of famous Brits buried abroad.

Very interesting and informative including a quick history of the different people plus those you might not have heard of but know of their achievements.

Armed with this invaluable book, walking shoes and a camera I shall certainly be doing the 'graveyard shift'!

Wish I Had This Book When I Was In England 28 Nov 2011
By Gail K. Powers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I like cemeteies and I really like visiting the graves of the famous and infamous. From the time I was little I'd go to cemeteries with my dad and do tombstone rubbings and visit interesting graves and monuments. Often pre-net, I'd do research regarding the people in the cemeteries I visited.
For someone with my hobby, this book is a fine resource. It documents the grave locations of a really large number of prominent people buried in the U.K. and abroad and is restricted primarily to British subjects. Broken down by regions, this book documents grave locations and provides very basic biographical information about its subjects. While it covers people I am familiar with, it also covers a lot of people I've never heard of who are part of the country's history or have made contributions to society, etc.
I went to England this summer and wished I had this book then. It would have enhanced my boneyard visits immensely. As it stands, this book has launched me on numerous research projects since reading it because it has stirred my curiousity.
Well written and researched, this book is a lot of fun and manages to avoid the morbid. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes graveyards.
