I've been a PC user of this software since 2005 and it was brilliant, I even kept a PC going for the purpose. When I saw that a mac version had been released I bought it immediately, which turned out to be real mistake. The software is completely bug ridden, it won't connect to the ancestry servers to register itself and it can't connect to activate the 6 months subscription. This last action was eventually achieved manually through their phone centre.
After loading in my imported database, (which in itself was a pain as the conversion software is PC only!) the experience seemed to be OK until I checked back down the tree to find generations fragmented and links broken, the inbuilt "find duplicate" feature which in the past would have repaired such problems can't seem to find the obvious problems though. I have had to stop using it as it is damaging years of careful research by breaking up family relationships. Another bug is that it sometimes breaks a family relationship and then propagates the current individual and their spouse as the parents back through time, as you scroll right it just adds another identical generation, but if you delete any of these bogus individuals then the original individual is deleted as well! There are more bugs but the ones I have listed are enough to highlight the issues.
Until Ancestry rectify these problems and update the software I would not recommend it to anyone. When this will happen though is anyones guess, the technical support is none existence and they seem disinterested in resolving the problem and I am still awaiting an e-mail from technical support explaining what is happening. The net and their own website clearly show that there have been issues for a while. This lack of customer management, is especially surprising as I had previously held the company in very high regard.
Keep your cash for the time being, would be my honest and unbiased advice, which is a shame as it has the makings of great piece of software just like it's PC brother

I was very disappointed with this software. The File Migration Utility only works for FTM2010 and FTM2011 Windows files. Anyone working with FTM2008 or FTM2009 in Windows will not be able to port their datafiles across to the Mac version unless they upgrade their PC software to FTM2010 or FTM2011. The other main problem with the Mac software version is that the web merge feature does not work correctly. Given the time investment people make in their family tree research I would not be prepared to use this software in it's current form for my work.

I have recently bought a Mac and needed to export the Family Tree data from my desktop PC to the Mac.
This product is ok but has one very annoying quirk, which I discovered within minutes of loading the program. Children are not (always) listed in birth order when showing an Outline Descendant Report. Since this is the main report I use, this has to rate as a major black mark against the product. I have been told that the developer is aware of the bug and that there are plans to correct it, but no timeframe is volunteered. Hmmm, not really good enough.
The other niggle I have is more one of presentation, rather than substance and concerns the Family Page view with which I have been long familiar. The Mac version seems to want to pack just far too much information onto a single page - but perhaps this simply reflects the design of this page in the latest Windows version too?

Terrible - avoid at ALL costs
I've used FTM for PC for years and it has gradually improved and got better and better. I switched to a Mac last year and bought this software as soon as it came out. Read more
