I used to read an awful lot of books when I was much younger, (two to three per week!), but over the last decade I guess that had fallen to no more than one per year if I was lucky, so when I picked up this book in a charity shop I wasn't expecting to read it in much less than a year. Right from the first chapter, though, I was gripped. Gruesome though the descriptions of the flesh strippings are, for me those just added to my enjoyment of the book! It totally captured my imagination to the extent I was putting off doing jobs that needed doing just to see what happened next. I read the book in one month, which as you've read is 12 times faster than my usual consumption! What I would love now is for someone to make a film of the book. I'm sure it would be a smash. It really is right up there with 'A Picture of Dorian Gray'. Do yourself a favour and get a copy today! Thanks Mr. Masterton for a super read...

This book has got to rate in the top five of mastertons horror novels. It is loosely based around a strange painting and a villanous family's maniacal strive for eternal youth and the lengths they go to to achieve it. Its gripping, frightening and at one stage so graphically gruesome it almost turned my stomach. A must have for masterton fans and a great starting point for those new to his work. Excellent

grusomely enthralling 30 Jan 2003
Format:Paperback
This book kept me awake not because it was a thriller but because i couldn't sleep without finding out what happened next. its not a story for sensetive people. It captures the human soul with its vanity and focuses on the loss of morals leading to immortality. The descriptive scene of unspeakable acts are portrayed with class and vigour, my imagination is so intense i could actually smell the things described.
If you are also interested in "dark" magic and the different realms of the supernatural psychic world then this is also a book to read. That for me was an unexpeceted but delightful turn in the storyline, where charecters are joined by cicumstances and belief is the only thing they have to stop them going crazy. The genre of the book is both spiritual and the sinful quest for immortality. each charecter is different and exciting in their own way even the evil ones.
I love this book in the dark and on my own definately a thumbs up!
