Book Description

This is the true story of a family history, spanning two world wars, and a young girl's childhood memories. The social stigmas and hardships of the mid-twentieth century are happily in the past.
Linda is the survivor of twin girls. The spirit of her lost angel sister lingered... At sixteen she fell in love; from that day her only ambition is to marry the man of her dreams. She thought she had found him...
L M Lewis
The above true story ends on a happy note with Linda's marriage. Her expectations of a happy future were dashed from the first days when she realised what a monster her new husband was. When she found she didn't know him at all. The harrowing true story and sequel to 'FAMILY LIFE OF A WAR BABY'; 'SHATTERED DREAMS' deserves a book on its own. A truly shocking story of abuse and cruelty beyond endurance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many names, very confusing. 9 Feb. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was born 7 years after the author so lived through much the same times as she did, but didn't find myself thinking 'oh I remember ....' at any point. I found this book thoroughly confusing -so many names!! I never worked out just who was who, and all the relationships -I just gave up trying in the end!! The author describes herself as a very confused personality and alternates between describing herself as 'timid and shy and blushing painfully' or having an inner devil that made her do naughty things. She was in fact a fairly typical child t. Being in the middle of the family brought its own problems and she had love/hate relationships wiith her two elder siblings. Her parents seem to have been kind and loving and her father typically the strict dad of the times. I didn't much enjoy her singleminded determination to marry Rod at all costs -one could see it doomed from the get-go, but being wilful she, no doubt. suffered later for it. I won't be reading anything else by this author. Her book was confused and confusing with all the names, the falling in and out of friendships and the mundane life she and her family lived. I don't want to read how her marriage probably failed and her later life. Not for me at all. I am just glad this was a freebie! Had it been longer, I wouldn probably not have bothered to finish it - my life is too short.

Excellent for the reader who can recollect similar shared experiences and reminisce about the years gone by. Looking forward to the next part of the story.

I ordered this as a freebee.... so shouldn't complain. Its an ok recollection of the writers life - quite fun in place... but the passive tone in which its written kind of gets on my nerves after a few pages. Sorry. Its a shame its in parts too - one big book would have been much better.

Hard to put this book down. Am looking forward to reading "Shattered Dreams". I am sure many people will recognise life as it was at that time. A good read.
