Product Description

The laughs come full "Force" when the Griffin clan puts a freakin' sweet spin on the greatest sci-fi saga ever told! With Peter playing the swashbuckling Han Solo, Lois as the sexy Princess Leia, Chris as an adolescent Luke Skywalker, Brian as a well-spoken Chewbacca and Stewie finally embracing his dark side as Darth Vader, who knows what will happen? Filled with outrageous gags, spaced-out droids and more intergalactic satire than you can shake a lightsaber at, this epic spoof of Star wars: A New Hope is a must-own for every fan of Family Guy!

From Amazon.co.uk

What better way to commemorate Star Wars' 30th anniversary than with this double-length Very Special Episode, a full-scale, awesomely animated spoof that recasts George Lucas's saga with Family Guy's galaxy of characters: Chris (Seth Green) is Luke; Lois (Alex Borstein) is Princess Leia; Peter (Seth McFarlane) is Han Solo, but not, as expected, Jabba the Hut; Brian (Seth, again) is Chewbacca; Quagmire (and again, Seth) is C3PO; Cleveland is R2D2; Herbert, the creepy senior paedophile, is Obi-Wan (both voiced by Mike Henry); and, of course, Stewie (Seth, one more time) is Darth Vader ("My diapers have gone over to the dark side"). Poor Meg is reduced to a cameo as the hideous reptilian creature that haunts the garbage compactor.

Blue Harvest is reverently faithful to A New Hope, while engaging in typical Family Guy pop-culture references (everything from old commercials to Doctor Who, Airplane, Dirty Dancing, and Deal or No Deal) and bizarre digressions (the iconic opening crawl detours into an appreciation of a "way naked" Angelina Jolie in Gia). Along for the wild ride are Judd Nelson, who contributes a voice cameo as John Bender for a Breakfast Club gag, Rush Limbaugh railing against futuristic affirmative action on Tatooine talk radio, and Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase as the vacationing Griswolds observing the rebellion from their orbiting station wagon. A Star Wars spoof in 2007 isn't exactly uncharted territory. As Chris Griffin notes in this episode's final moments, Robot Chicken brilliantly did it months earlier (and let us not forget Mel Brooks's Spaceballs from 1987; or, on second thought...). But the Force is strong with Family Guy, and who could resist the opportunity to hear the Muzak playing in a Death Star elevator? --Donald Liebenson, Amazon.com --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

If you Love Family Guy you'll be happy to pay the extra, but be warned the UK version does not contain the iPod version that's been discussed everywhere online (announced by the guy from FOX at the Apple Expo, he forgot that the US is NOT the whole world and to mention that this would only be available in the states). If you want to watch this on your iPhone/iPod you'll have to buy it all over again (and they say piracy is immoral!).

Had been looking forward to this release for a long time and when I discovered there was a special edition I knew it had to be bought. The special edition was bought without looking at what was inside, got home and was quite sad to discover a t-shirt inside that takes up the majority of the case for no need. The t-shirt could have been wrapped outside the box. If the t-shirt was to be taken out and worn there will be a big gap in the case. The case was also extremely difficult to take out and resulted in case being ripped. Just thought I'd let people know this problem.

For those who are regular watchers of Family Guy you will already know how easily they parody TV shows and movies in sketches that literally last a few seconds. Now they've decided to go one better and make a feature length episode as a parody of Star Wars Episode 4, and let me tell you this is just as strong as those few second long clips. Here is the scrolling writing that Star Wars is famous for but with a Family Guy twist on it all.

A long time ago, but somehow in the future.

Episode IV

It is a time of civil war,
and renegade paragraphs
floating through space.

There's cool space battles,
and the bad guy is the
good guy's dad, but you
don't find that out 'til the
next episode.

And the hot chick is really
the sister of the good
guy, but they don't know it,
and they kiss. which is
kind of messed up. I mean,
what if they had done it
instead of just kissed?

Angelina Jolie kissed her
brother. Yeah, she did. You
know it, I know it and
her Dad knows it. That's
why they hardly ever talk
anymore. You can run away to
Africa, but you can't run
away from the truth.

Oh, by the way, here's
a tip for you: when this
is over, go out and rent
the movie "Gia." She's way
naked in it, and makes out
with another chick and
everything. It's awesome.
I stumbled across it late
at night on HBO after I
had just got back from
hockey, and I almost
fainted. But I digest...

Princess Leia was coming
back from buying space
groceries when this
happened...

When reading that at the start of this, I just knew that the episode would be amazing.

and I was surprised it was so short, being 45 minutes and only Episode 4. I had for some reason thought it was 75 minutes and the first three films. Also don't expect the anarchy and comedy of regular Family Guy episodes, I would say it is more a homage to Star Wars with Family Guy overlaid.

The storyline, script and even some shots closely if not exactly follow the film and this is where I enjoyed it as they are so well done. I didn't really laugh like I do with regular FG, but it is a different product and should be viewed as such.

I am guessing that they will eventually do the other films depending on the success of this and whilst I would say it is worth the cost of a rental I really can't say it is worth purchasing at only 45 minutes for the disc itself.

So for Star Wars fans - a must see, FG fans - not so sure, they will probably be disappointed as with other reviewers, anyone else - I think it would be lost on them.

Anyone who is a fan of Star Wars and Family Guy are going to love this special! I was lucky to be over in the states when this was first aired. I am a big family guy fan but did feel the previous UK DVD release (series 6) was slightly weaker than some of the others. I think the episode is a real return to top form and from reading peoples reviews on lots of different family guy DVD releases I'm sure some people will not be happy with just the single special episode release. But extras like interviews with Seth McFarlane & George Lucas, episode commentary and a sneak preview of a reported sequel special (something, something, something dark side based on empire strikes back) I think it is worth getting.

I had high expectations for this episode which all starts with the family watching TV before all the power goes out. So Peter decides to tell the family the story of Star Wars starting with Episode 4. Peter plays Hans Solo, Lois is Princess Leia, Chris is Luke Skywalker, Stewie is Darth Vader, Brian is Chewbacca and Meg turns up as the monster in the garbage shoot. The show also includes a fair share of your favourite other characters turning up with Cleveland and Quagmire as R2D2 and C3PO, Herbert as Obi-Wan and Major West as Darth Vader's Grand Moff Tarkin. It is a little disappointing the episode doesn't have a great character like Joe in it or the Channel 5 news team. But from the reports that a second Star Wars I'm sure they'll make it into that episode.

The episode is titled after the secret name during the production of the Return of the Jedi film and contains lots of the typical family guy gags.
