5.0 out of 5 stars The Bird is the Word... 19 May 2009
Format:DVD
Family Guy. In its 8th season, but still the greatest show on TV. Although I don't think the writers will ever truly reach the heights which Seasons 2 and 3 were at, the jokes, gags and incidents are, in places, side-splitting. For Family Guy fans, or for those just simply interested in a hilarious and witty Animation, then every season is a must buy. Very few episodes dissapoint throughout the entire show, and thankfully, Season 8 is no exception.

There is still confusion which episodes are on which DVD's, so I will clear up what is what on the Season 8 DVD:

1. Back to the Woods (9/10)

James Woods returns to Quahog to seek revenge against Peter by stealing his identity and becoming Peter Griffin. Though Peter is left with nothing, he counters against his treacherous former friend by ruining the actor's career and public image.

(Peter, Joe, Cleveland and Quagmire have just finished slating Barry Manilow.) Few moments of silence...Joe: "I love Barry Manilow."

2. Play it Again Brian (8.5/10)

Feeling their marriage has hit a snag, Peter and Lois take Brian's offer to go with him for a relaxing vacation at Martha's Vineyard. However, as Peter gets drunk, Brian loses his self-restraint and professes his love for Lois. Peter and Brian must now test their friendship over the woman of their dreams.

(Lois asks Peter if he is ready to go out. Peter then appears in fishing clothing and equipment.) Peter: "Ohhhh...Right."

3. The Former Life of Brian (9.5/10)

Brian discovers that he is the illegitimate father of an old flame's unruly son, Dylan, who is dropped off at the Griffins' house so Brian can raise him.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Family Guy Fun Keeps A Comin' 5 Nov 2009
Format:DVD
Another superb addition to the DVD series, Here we see Peter turn Gay through a sereies of drug trials, The Family find themselves with a new pet ... A Retarded Horse, Guest Appearance from OJ Simpson, Jesus, James Woods and Frank Sinatra JR. With all the usual comedy antics, the latest in the Series continiues to deliver family guy fans with there long awaited fix of family fun, racism, political incorrectness and downright stupidness that we have all com to love!
A definate sale for me and would totally recommend to anyone, perfect stocking filler or great for any Family Guy Fan. Jonny Parish

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the earlier series.. 3 Dec 2009
By Sandi
Format:DVD
... but if you're like me and absolutely love Family Guy you will buy it anyway just to add it to your collection! Most of the episodes - with a few exceptions - are pretty weak. This series also features the longest chicken-fight (no doubt a time filler to pad the episode out) which is painfully boring to watch.
You could probably watch these episodes on FX or BBC Three and save yourself the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, but not the best series 3 Dec 2009
By Ash TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
I am a long-time Family Guy devotee, I own all the series on official DVDs and have watched them many, many times. I pretty much can't go to sleep without hearing the theme tune on BBC3!

This series continues in the same vein as all the others, with the same solid animation style, close-to-the-bone humour and random flashbacks. I would say the writing isn't as strong as in series 4 and 5, but there have always been a few dud episodes in every series so this probably isn't anything unusual. There also seems to be a lot more swearing in this series too, though there is still considerably less than in other adult shows like True Blood, The Sopranos, Misfits etc. That really is something to remember - FAMILY GUY IS NOT FOR KIDS!

Really, there's no better accolade that I can give than to say if you are a fan, buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Guy 31 Dec 2010
Format:DVD
How could Family Guy be reviewed?
It's freakin awesome.
People complain about it being racist, homophobic, anti-semetic, sexist etc.
It's not. Some of the characters hold these views (just like some people do in real life) but then by the end of the episode, they have an epiphany and a moral lesson is taught.

Above all that, and most importantly, Family Guy is arguably the funniest, most hilarious show on television at the minute. This is probably the best season so far too. I would definately recomend it.

Another really funny off the wall chunk of humour.Dont buy if you dont like silly/surreal/sick?/daft humour as you will be upset! Those in the 'know' will agree you either love it or hate Family Guy. For me I find it side splitting. 10/10....A+ FUNNY!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 star 27 Jun 2010
By Rebecca
Format:DVD
Season 8 is really good, loads of funny bits just like classic family guy. Peter v Christian Bale, Peter, Chris and Meg working on a cartoon etc. I left out the last star though because it has flaws, like there are too many times where they revert to old jokes. Not that using a past joke is a bad thing, it can work really well, but they use so many jokes they have previously used in this season. Also there are moments that just go on too long, like the conway twitty thing, which is always funny but with this one they play the entire song...

Family Guy is a great series created by Seth McFarlane - the guy behind American Dad, and looks at the world of the Griffins - Peter, the crazy father who's always up to something silly; Lois, the mother - usually the calm collected one; Meg, always picked on; Brian, the family dog who drinks and is very funny; Chris, the family doofus and finally Stewie - the talking baby, and my favourite character. Peter hangs out with Joe, a macho cop, Quagmire a womaniser, and Cleveland who's really funny and a stereotype of an Afro-American of the 70s.

Some of the best episodes include the one where Stewie helps Frank Sinatra Jr turn his fortune around with a club; the one where Peter meets Jesus; the one where Quagmire, Joe and Peter do Jackass style stunts, and the one where Mort ends up transporting himself to 1940's Poland.

Even though everyone hates the episode, the one with Surfing Bird is a great episode, especially the parody with Stewie and Brian doing a scene from Office Space. Some people say it's not Seth's best moment, but it's memorable like the chicken fight in series 6 (US not UK) and Brian being ribbed about his book by Stewie ("has it got a beginning, and end and a narrative?"

One thing that did disappoint me though is where is the episode where Peter and his friends go on an adventure along a train track to find a dead body? The second half saw Brian as a writer who nearly gets killed by Stewie an obsessed fan (apparently the episode is called Three Kings) - maybe Stephen King didn't allow it? Another episode missing is Peter's Progress. I find this rather awful that they've forgotten these episodes as they were great too.
