About the Author

His publications include THE WOMEN'S GUIDE TO HOMEOPATHY (Hamish Hamilton), THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO HOMEOPATHY and THE NATURAL DIET BOOK (Penguin, 1997).

I have been borrowing my friends copy whilst eagerly awaiting my own copy. The book is divided into section dealing with What is Homeopathy; Prevention is better than cure; First Aid; Ailments and Diseases; Nutritional Supplements and Special Diets. I have often been concerned that when reading other Homeopathy books the reader may feel over confident and that they no longer need to seek medical advice for anything! This book written, by a GP, gives clear indication that the lay person should not think that by following this book they can dispense with professionally trained help. Dr Lockie gives warnings when help should be sought. He also suggests that if possible one should consult a medically qualified homeopathic physician. If this is not possible one should then consult a qualified homoepath but under the continuing observation of ones GP. I believe that The Family Guide to Homeopathy by Andrew Lockie is an excellent reference book.

the book is quite comprehensive and has an excellent way to find the correct remedy. you find the 4 or 5 closest remedies from the main entry of complaints then cross reference a section at the start of the book which lists secondary symptoms, postures, activities etc which alleviate or make the condition worse. it demistfies the process and is a foolproof way, i think, of finding the correct remedy and dose.

This is a book for the self deluded and opponents of evidence based medicine.
Of course in its self Homeopathy is safe as it is water and sugar pills showing effect by the well documented and evidenced placebo effect.
The book cherry picks favourable research and ignores the meta analysis of well designed research.
The danger is in people uncritically reading and believing the contents and conclusions of this book ,then this influencing them to not seek advice from health professionals, who use an empirical knowledge to base their diagnosis and treatment advice on.
This is unimportant if it is a self correcting condition common cold ,back ache ,headache etc but when more serious conditions are claimed to be treatable with "magic" water it is most certainly not safe.
Buyer beware.

What a wonderful thing homeopathy is. Take a bit of a plant, put it in some alcohol. Dilute it with water until there is no trace of the original left. Dilute it more. Read more
