Even though im a complete novice when it comes to polymer clay sculpting, I can see that this book is excellent.

The step by step instruction and photo illustration provide a superb resource.

Im interested in sculpting real faces and capturing expressions, this book sets out and describes how to really observe faces and understand the fundemental human proportions to give your work that professional touch.

This book is a great "how to" book. It is easy to read and understand and both informative and entertaining. Like her style of getting her point accross.

In this newest sculpting book Maureen Carlson throughly explains and shows each step of the way how to create a realistic face. The "whys" of realism verses character are explored and shown. And the keys to seeing the differences in real people's faces are explored and explained. There are great sculpting instructions for hands, feet, shoes, bodies, costuming and so much more!

Breathtaking characters! ! ! 23 May 2002
By roey kedmi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I work with Fimo almost for six months - it's my hobby.
Last month I bought two books from "amazon" :
1."How to make clay characters"
2."Family and Friends in polymer clay".
They teach me how to do fascinating characters in so clearly ways.
I love those books because Maureen Carlson explanations are simply, clearly, amusing and accurate.
They can teach everyone how to make clay characters.
I find lots of full color pictures and detailed in those books that make this fun and easy to create clay characters.
The chapters about choosing the clay, gathering tools, basic techniques, and problems and solutions are very much comprehensive, and I wish I had those books when I first started to work with Fimo - because they would save me a lot of time and clay! ! !
I can't stop reading and doing the things in the book.
Everyone who see the things that I do with Fimo from those books can't believe that I did those characters, because they are so charming, adorable, exciting and breathtaking! ! !
I think that everyone who works with polymer clay should have those books.

One of the BEST ever! 29 Mar 2004
By R. Jill Fink - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Maureen Carlson writes this great book with passion, skill, and humor. She starts the reader out with simple, step-by-step instructions that can't be better. I am a Polymer Clay Instructor, and I found this book to be invaluable! The one area with which I had trouble in sculpting polymer clay, the human form and face, are now no longer a mystery to me. I highly recommend this wonderful book to anyone even vaguely interested in dollmaking for fun and/or for profit.
