Biography

Elvis Aaron Presley is one of the biggest-selling artists of all-time, but mere numbers cannot begin to explain the colossal cultural impact he had in the mid-20th Century. He was a central figure in the transformation of the grey, conservative 50s into the technicolor 60s through the liberalizing effect of rock and pop music. Frank Sinatra had proved extremely popular in the 40s with young ... Read more in Amazon's Elvis Presley Store

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT DIVERSITY FROM THE "KING" 7 Jan 2003
Format:Audio CD
This (and the 1969 Memphis sessions) has to be the best recordings Elvis ever made. His voice in 1960 had clearly matured and he delivers a mixture of stunning outtakes (soon to be brilliant masters) ranging from rock to blues to near-opera !

The quality of great Presley standards including "It's Now or Never"; "Stuck on You"; "Surrender"; and personal favourite, "Such A Night", make this an absolute "must have".

Also superb outtakes of "Make Me Know It" and the blues cuts, "Like A Baby" and "Thrill of Your Love"

My joint favourite FTD release - an absolute winner !

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of the Best Elvis Cd's 13 April 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
What can I say; another stunning release from the FTD label, which although has produced a few miss-fires, they really have surpassed themselves with this, the Memphis Sesions, Jungle Room Sessions, Burbank 68 and Silver Screen Stereo.

This cd sounds amazingly good, really among the best sounding Elvis cd's out there; which makes more of the fact that the music is so damn good.

Arguably the sessions in the year after his army release were the best Elvis ever was. And, as always every genre of popular music is approached by the man who genuinly could sing it all, and effortlessly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something nice for the fan-historian-musician 11 April 2004
By p. silverman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Here are 27 more quality outtakes with the focus on the Nashville (non-soundtrack) sessions from 1960 to 1961. The material is mostly 'A'; the singing is outstanding. Elvis' range during that period was amazing: from bass to falsetto, from blues to opera, etc.
There are only perhaps five or six tracks which could have been issued originally, as none are as strong as the familiar cuts, but "Make Me Know It" is equally as entertaining and longer than the '60 release; "It's Now Or Never" has a more powerful ending note; "The Girl Of My Best Friend", though too slow, is otherwise solid and features a throughly committed vocal; "Milky White Way" is certainly comparable; "Starting Today" is another fine example of his new near-falsetto ballad style.
This CD is a natural companion to the Ernst Jorgensen book on Elvis' sessions.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much greater than silver and gold 16 Aug 2004
By Johnny Heering - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This Elvis fan club CD features alternate takes of songs recorded in Nashville between March 1960 and March 1961. These were the sessions for the Elvis Is Back!, His Hand in Mine, and Something for Everybody albums. These were some of Elvis' best recording sessions. The March 1961 session wasn't quite as good as the 1960 sessions, but it was still very good. Hardcore Elvis fans should really dig this.
