Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster

Biography

When Lady Gaga was a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper hits and get twirled in the air in daddy’s arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The precocious child would dance around the table at fancy Upper West Side restaurants using the breadsticks as a baton. And, she would innocently greet a new babysitter in… Read more in Amazon's Lady Gaga Store

Amazon.co.uk Review

No one can accuse a singer who titles her first solo record The Fame of hiding her motives, and as an exercise designed to make a pop star out of the woman previously known as Stefani Joanne Germanotta, it succeeds perfectly. There is plenty more to Germanotta than the super-stylised, cosmetically reworked face she presents to the world. For all the Paris Hilton-esque bimbo role-playing, Lady GaGa is a product of New York’s knowing downtown art/dance scene. So it’s no surprise to find that The Fame is a witty take on contemporary pop values, at times cruelly sarcastic ("Paparazzi" blatantly flirts with the same snappers who drove Britney over the brink). It’s as shameless as Pussycat Dolls (she has already penned tunes for them), as crass and kiddie-friendly as anything Black-Eyed Peas might concoct, and as generation-defying as her obvious inspiration Madonna. In short, The Fame is built to sell, and tunes like the chart-topping single "Just Dance", the amusingly stupid "Boys Boys Boys" (supposedly a tribute to Motley Crue’s equally dumb "Girls Girls Girls") and the brutal materialism of "Money Honey", "Beautiful, Dirty, Rich" and the title track seduce the ear rather than impress the intellect. Smarter than it first appears, The Fame might be the start of a long and interesting career or it could prove to be a flash in the pan, but it’s easy to tell why it sells. --Steve Jelbert

CD Description

The Fame is the debut album by American pop singer Lady GaGa. Taking her name from the legendary Queen song "Radio GaGa", her album is a fusion of futuristic pop beats and retro rock stylings. Working with a host of talented producers (Space Cowboy, RedOne, Brian Kierluf) this is the sound of modern pop. Includes the singles "Just Dance", "Poker Face" and "The Fame".

5.0 out of 5 stars A Storming Debut Album with Several Classic Tracks, 11 Jan 2010

Mr. Laurence Williams "laurence_p_williams" (UK) - See all my reviews

This review is from: The Fame (Audio CD)
There is a suitable time or place to listen to any music and this CD deserves to be appreciated at high volume when your senses are fully awake (or perhaps need awakening) !

'Lady Gaga' is a clearly talented singer/performer (I've seen TV broadcasts of her live at Glastonbury to know that to be true - she wears outlandish costumes, 'dances', plays instruments as well as composing the majority of her material) and there is a good range of songs on offer on this album to enjoy her vocal quality and musical 'energy' to it's best.

Things get off to a great start with the powerful 'Let's Dance' and it's pretty much full-throttle from then on; my favourites are 'Poker Face' on the album and 'Paparazzi' (although it is better performed live). It's not just her voice that helps to make these songs so enjoyable of course, the largely synthesised supporting music is also excellent and of a style unusual/defined enough to prevent the tracks becoming unforgettable or difficult to distinguish from other modern music.

The reproduction quality of this CD is flawless and there's nearly an hour of music to enjoy; the UK-edition I own has 16 tracks and some good online bonus content (an extra track, downloadable videos and wallpaper images) but I found the live video offered was unavailable for download - although it is available 'elsewhere'...

Even the CD packaging is a classy-affair, with a chunky/'curvy' jewel case and an informative booklet including plenty of photos of the 'Lady' herself.

I am too old to be in disco's or nightclubs where Lady Gaga tracks might be played, but I can imagine how good the experience might be; playing this album loud on my home hi-fi is a good substitute !

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Album, Very Talented Artist, 4 Jan 2010
By
This review is from: The Fame (Audio CD)
Lady GaGa is definitely one of the hottest acts in the world right now. The Fame, her debut album, is brilliant and has the international number one hits Just Dance and Poker Face on it. They're both brilliant up tempo songs and ones you can easily dance to. Just Dance earned GaGa a nomination at the 51st Grammy Awards for Best Dance Recording. GaGa released an extension of her The Fame album called The Fame Monster containing eight new songs, including the number one Bad Romance. She's so different from most artists in the charts and it's refreshing to see. Her songs are really good and she deserves all the success she has had. To date she has sold over 20 million digital singles and eight million albums worldwide.

5.0 out of 5 stars addictive and fun, 14 Oct 2009
By
This review is from: The Fame (Audio CD)
I bought this album after hearing lady gaga's first three singles and was pleasantly suprised, however if you are looking for an album with lots of variation this probably isn't the one for you as all songs are along the same theme (money, fame, boys, fun). After purchasing this it has been stuck on repeat on my car ever since! Its really catchy, happy and if you love Gwen Stefani's solo work you will love this as many of the tracks reflect Gwen's style! Always individual, definetly enjoyable. If you like lady gaga's previous chart releases you are sure to love this...here's hoping for more of the same from this hot new act in years to come.
