2.0 out of 5 stars a book that misses its point!, 26 Dec 2000
By Mauri Laihorinne (Forssa, Finland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Ms Lambert has taken the mission to decredit Jim Garrison's probe and Oliver Stone's JFK. In doing so she has found some quite interesting trivia about the trial of Clay Shaw. But she totally misses every good thing that came from the case. Yes, Mr.Garrison was a bullient, loud-mouthed, mob-controlled DA, who did some terrible mistakes. But his inquest turned out a lot of new evidence about the assassination, because he could use his subpoena power. Where we would be today without the Zapruder film or the witnesses that Warren comission overlooked? Also, when Oliver Stone grabbed Garrison's story he twisted and turned Garrison as being a lone dissenter out for the truth - a common formula in the American cinema - to convey his message: that the assasination was a coup-dÉtat. And Stone makes that very clear to every wiever. That's how Hollywood big budget films are made today. Ms. Lambert just doesn't understand this and her book is therefore bias and misses the point completely. And the vast number of details just makes one feel that he/she is reading a gossip column. I surely don't want to read this kind of "investigation". But I can still recommend it to readers who are interested in Garrison/Shaw -trial. But read it with open eyes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Another Waste of Time book about the JFK assassination, 14 April 2003
Patricia Lambert's book adds nothing to the general body of knowledge surrounding the Kennedy assassination. I had high hopes for this book and was disappointed that it essentially was a witch hunt about Jim Garrison and presented only those facts which Lambert felt proved her view of the case. Not worth buying; take it out of the library and save your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars well researched but strays from the subject, 30 Jun 2002
In many ways this is a thoroughly well researched account of the clay shaw trial. Lambert has the mind and the eye for detail as good as any lawyer and presents a forceful account of the proceedings. However, the paper thin stories of characters such as David Ferrie are given minimal analysis and the reader is given to feeling that Lambert has allowed their weak accounts to slip past her. Towards the end, the book somewhat loses direction and many pages are given over to speculation regarding Garrisons sexuality. A superficial use of psycho - analysis is used to question Garrisons motives for the trial and I feel the book lacks credibility in this area. Well worth a read.
