Book Description

Over two hundred and thirty years ago the Fallocaust happened, killing almost everything that lived and creating what is now known as the greywastes. A dead wasteland where cannibalism is a necessity, death your reality, and life before the radiation nothing but pictures in dog-eared magazines.

Reaver is a greywaster, living in a small block controlled by a distant ruler said to have started the Fallocaust. He is a product of the savage world he was raised in and prides himself on being cold and cruel. Then someone new to his town catches his eye, someone different than everyone else. Without knowing why he starts to silently stalk him, unaware of where it will lead him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Violent sexy mayhem 11 Mar. 2014

Makes Mad Max look like a Sunday picnic.
Fallocaust is full of surprises it has more twists then a junk yard gogo dancer. I really enjoyed the clever problem solving used for the harsh environment, some of it very disturbing, the book also has a curious take on community and necessity, some of the things they have to do to survive is just horrible
The characters are solid, cant help but develop attachments, some very tender moments contrasted with gasping brutal horror.
Its not all creeping death doom and violence thou, Fallocaust is peppered with humor and fun.
Looking forward to the next installment so i can hang out with the guys again in the Grey Wastes

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, riveting excitement! 12 April 2014

Everything about Fallocaust had me completely gripped the entire time. I've not read something along these lines for quite some time and was very pleasantly surprised both at the book and at myself.

The story was brilliant. It felt original and unexplored (leaving so much room for more). The entire concept was fresh and drew me in immediately. As for the characters themselves... I couldn't have asked for more. Every single person had a history and a personality. They all have their darkness, but there is also light. Reaver is strong, brooding and sharp. Killian is smart and innocent with an undiscovered depth. Reno sparks a smile with every action. Greyson and Leo are very realistic and true to how life actually is. Even the secondary characters, Perish, Matt, Shadii, Hollis, Nero, Jade, Silas, everyone else has a purpose and a story. They all come together in a beautifully tragic beginning to an epic.

While the story is gruesome and violent and dark, the light shines through without dismissing the shadows entirely. That is what I loved about it. There is good and bad in everyone and everything and that is what makes a good read. It is realistic to how life truly is. It doesn't glaze over the pain and sorrow, but uses those emotions to fuel the characters and story.

As fair warning: those with weak stomachs may have issues reading through a couple passages, but in the same respect, those passages bring a needed insight into the character development.

Am really looking forward to what happens next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book of the year 4 Aug. 2014
By Olga Troian - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Ok, it would be much easier for me review this book if English was not my second language because I don't know enough adjectives to describe how good this book is. From the first chapter, no matter how shocking or, maybe, because of it, you get sucked in into this dangerous, dark, shocking, gory world. And it doesn't matter that the book is 900 pages long, it's never enough, it's unputdownable, it's like a drug, and when you get the first hit, read the first chapter, that's it, you are hooked. Throughout the whole book I was stunned by author's fearsome, daring, genius mind and deviant imagination that could create something so unique and brilliant. And all the characters and creatures he so masterfully presented deserve separate recognition, their description is so detailed, so descriptive, so vivid in your mind it's like you are there, in greywastes, with them, and you can smell them and hear them and fear them. Outstanding. And what stunned me the most after reading the first half it was the realization of how this book was so much more then the story of two boys falling in love and trying to survive the harsh reality if their lives. The complicated, unexpected and unpredictable ways the lives of all the characters intertwine with one another and how the events unfold is fascinating and, at times, jaw dropping. This book is so much more and bigger then anybody could ever imagine.
Fallocaust is the best book I've read this year, Quil Carter is a shining new star in the writing world and I am so glad I discovered his books. You have to read this book, it's an adventure you don't want to miss because something like this doesn't come into our lives to often. Bravo, Author Quil Carter.

This is not your average romance novel. If you are like me and want a change of pace in your next book, I highly recommend Fallocaust. Quil Carter is a brilliant story teller. His characters are complex and his story is unique. I can't wait for the next in the series and plan to read the companion novels as well. LOVED IT!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling and Addictive! 19 Mar. 2015
By Konquererz - Published on

Before I point out the good and bad of this book, let me just say this book is completely enthralling! A must read!

The author leaves some grammatical errors which annoyed me as a writer myself. He also seems to miss obvious chapter ending points and often combines thoughts and ideas into one chapter, that should have their own chapters. Chapter endings are sometimes wonky, and the chapters are often longer than necessary.

But the story is unique and truly something special. He provides detailed descriptions of the world of 'Fallocaust' without being boring. The complexity of the story entwined with the world is amazing and extremely satisfying for the reader. However, the true genius of this book is the characters. Quil Carter develops the characters to such a degree that you find yourself attached to them in any way the author chooses. If he wants you to love them, you love them. If he wants you to hate them, you hate them. The rich depth of the characters, flaws and all, is simply something you don't see much of. While being set in a future we can't imagine or fathom, the characters seem real and approachable. You can visualize them, hear them, see them, taste them. Everything about them is detailed seamlessly in the story. I actually became emotionally attached to some of these characters. Yet, each character is submissive to the story line, so when their death, resurrection, or miraculous survival benefits the story, he has no problem executing that.

The story has its moments though. Rape, cannibalism, abuse, and over all violence are themes you have to deal with in this book. But they are an integral part of the story. Violence is not used for the sake of shock value. Rather, it is used to show and reveal parts of a characters psyche. There is not a moment when something graphic or "vulgar" does not serve the purpose of furthering the story. The book also has graphic sex scene it it, both consensual and non-consensual. But again, they further the story and the often times the growing relationships of the characters involved.

There is an unrealistic number of gay men in this world. I personally enjoyed and relish the idea of a brutal dystopian series revolving around such a world. I cannot wait to read Breaking Jade, and continue on to The Ghost and the Darkness. Quil Carter succeeds in capturing my imagination to the point of addiction! I can say with complete sincerity that I had to force myself to stop reading this every night in bed or I would have not slept for days reading this. It is really that good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome story! 21 Feb. 2014

It's not everyday you read an original idea in this genre. I found myself gripped to the book even though I am generally not the biggest reader. The character development and the relationships that transpire between them is deep, realistic, and at times inspiring. I felt as if the characters became more and more real as the story progressed. The price was a giveaway considering how entertaining the story was. A+++
