I bought this as a present for my husband who has broken countless nutcrackers over the years. Finally, one that crushes the shells of the most obstinate nuts! Yes, it looks more like an instrument of torture than a nutcracker, but that is part of its appeal.

Described as 'Designed in Europe Made in China' this very heavy 2.75 Kg weight cast iron very rustic looking nut cracker will take nuts up to about 3 cm thickness ~ which certainly includes all walnuts that I personally have found.

It is the best cracker of hard almond shells that I have encountered - and I have tried a wide variety of different designs .
It really looks more like an item to keep in the garden shed with garden tools, rather than an item for a house dining room table ~ but it is very effective at cracking nuts that other crackers may not have the force to break open.
It may come pre-assembled , or in several parts in the box which are easily screwed together.
Highly recommended good value for money nutcracker; but the really heavy chunky dark brown cast iron style appearance may not be appealing to some domestic tastes ?

This is an excellent product - it is particularly good at shelling almonds and hazelnuts without breaking the nuts. It can cope fine with walnuts and brazil nuts as well, but they are more prone to being slightly crushed in the process. Some people have said walnuts are too big for it - they must be pretty huge walnuts, as all of mine have fit (although there is not a massive amount of spare headroom).

The best things about it are that it looks pretty industrial (nice if you like that sort of thing, which I do), and the crack from a particularly tough almond is surprisingly satisfying.
