Book Description

8 Dec 2008
When his latest case falls on him and his partner-quite literally-Detective Nick Markov knows the demolition of his car by a not-yet-cold body is the least of his worries. The dead body is that of prominent businessman Andrew Langan, and suicide is swiftly ruled out after Nick pursues the killers down twenty-seven flights-and loses them. To his superiors' frustrations, Nick doesn't buy into the popular belief that Langan's soon-to-be ex-wife Augusta is behind the murder, even though she has the motive, the opportunity, no alibi and a shady past. The only reasons Nick has for going against logical dictates are the feeling in his gut and the constriction in his chest. Augusta soon finds herself thrust back into an unwanted spotlight and her quiet life shattered. Then things go downhill. In between dodging the media, Augusta fights off a mugger, deals with a kidnapping attempt and confronts goons better dressed than she. With Nick Markov, who dredges up a past she'd rather forget and feelings she'd rather not admit to having, Augusta must race to unravel her deceased husband's perilous legacy of deadly secrets before she finds herself skydiving without a parachute.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific! 26 Feb 2007
By MaryGrace Meloche - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I don't read many romantic suspense novels. However, Ann Bruce's FALL DEAD may have changed that thinking! FALL DEAD is a darn good novel. Bruce's storyline is entertainingly vivid and by the end of the book, I was truly glad I had read it!

Her husband was dead. Someone had murdered the man and although Augusta Langan suffered from a guilty conscience, she certainly didn't want him dead! Yet, Augusta Langan was the number one suspect. Life stacked a few simple facts against her! Her dead husband had been wealthy, he had cheated on her, and their divorce was a shoo-in.

It was a murder investigation, but when Augusta Langan opened her door, NYPD Detective Nick Markov was a goner! There she stood bewitchingly; her long legs exposed invitingly. Yet, it was the dark, sleepy eyes and tousled hair that completely drew Nick Markov! Gone was the detective's professionalism. For the first time in his career, Detective Nick Markov found a painful, edgy state hindering the interrogation of his prime suspect!

Reviewer's Comments:
While I don't often read romantic suspense, I can honestly say that Ann Bruce's tale was a completely satisfying indulgence. I found FALL DEAD fascinating. The mystery flowed in bits and pieces, the pace was excellent, and using complete control, Ann Bruce built the momentum, one step at a time. This drew me in and the more I read, the more I wanted. Ms. Bruce's expressive style kept me turning the pages.

Any storyline that can completely pull me in and keep me certainly deserves the perfect rating. Over the years, very few books have achieved this reviewer's "plus ultra", but Ann Bruce's FALL DEAD warrants it! Nicely done! FALL DEAD is a sexy, satisfying read!
Grade: A+
