The Falkus approach to flycasting is unusual. Most anglers consider Spey casting as something to be used only in certain conditions or, more usually, as too difficult to learn easily. Hugh maintained that this is nonsense and that Spey casting had a 'bad press'. It should be used normally, in place of the overhead cast; for singlehanded trout rods as well as for salmon and, indeed, for boat fishing as well - and he demonstrates in detail how safe, how simple to learn, and how easy on the angler Spey casting can be. The effectiveness of his teaching technique can be judged by the fact that the producer of this programme - who had previously avoided the Spey Cast for the reasons above - now uses it regularly as a result of watching the master at work. Format:DVD
Although this is a DVD, do not expect the picture to be perfect, as this is a DVD that has been mastered from an original analogue tape which has seen better days. You will see noise constantly along the bottom of the frame, with video droupouts every so often.
That said, it is great to see the master Hugh Falkus at work, his style is very engaging, his instruction very clear.
You just wish that Beckmann Visual Publishing had found a better source and it is is questionable that the DVD is worth £17, given that it is less than an hour long and the picture is not the best.

top class video from the master. Spay casting made simple. Will worth the money for the new to spay casting.

I have to agree with the first reviewer about the quality of the picture on this DVD which I consider unacceptable for this price.
What he doesn't mention is that the title itself is misleading. "Falcus On Fly Casting - For Trout and Salmon" might lead you to believe that this was going to cover all forms of fly casting but you need to look at the note at the bottom of the box front to discover the truth. This DVD is basically all about Spey Casting with an introduction which includes the roll cast.
I feel that the title could easily mislead someone who was looking for a lesson in fly fishing generally and whilst it is great to see Falcus in action you never actually get to see him fishing. The whole DVD is a demonstration of Spey casting on flat water.
For anyone who wants a general introduction to fly casting check out Hywel Morgan's DVD on Fly Casting which is half the price and much better value.
