Product Description

Living semi bankrupt in France wasn't the dream I'd fantasized about. Homesick and disillusioned, I knew something had to change, but what?

It seemed like a good idea at the time. I had seen all those TV programmes. The dream of living in France was only a ferry ride away.
But months later, my life was a nightmare. I didn't fit in with either the expats or the French, my husband had taken refuge in Star Trek and I had adopted a crazy dog that ate anything he could find, including my slippers.
Faced with loneliness and very homesick for my family in the UK, I began to write a journal of my life.

This is a warts and all tale for anyone who has ever thought of 'living the dream.' Humour and tears a plenty, join me on my journey of self discovery and see if I was really only Faking it in France.

2.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining enough but ... 4 Mar 2013
By ClairPG
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is full of touching anecdotes, and there are lots of laughs and light-heartedness despite a tragic back story. However, there is also a lot of jumping from story to story, a huge number of typos, some very odd punctuation and spelling ... I know Karen explained her dyslexia so I tried to allow for that and I did accept certain things that we just part of her style, but in places this really could have done with a good edit.

As a Brit in France for 17 years now, I often tittered at some of Karen's experiences, although at other times, certain seeming generalisations annoyed me. All in all, an entertaining enough read but the lack of editing really did spoil it for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read but 29 April 2013
By Val3
Format:Kindle Edition
disappointing that it wasn't better edited as there are so many spelling/punctuation errors. Otherwise Karen tells a good story and the reader genuinely shares her ups and downs of living in France. This isn't a rosé-tinted specs version of la belle vie but one which does not shy away from the difficulties of living in a different country away from close family and friends. I'm looking forward to reading the next book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Won't be reading the second book in the series 24 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you like watching rubbish TV, are a fan of Take That, fancy Robbie Williams, know a lot of weird people, smoke and swear you might be able to identify with this author. I'm surprised I even bothered finishing this book. I think it was because I was only hoping this moaning self interested woman would get what she deserved and end up without husband number 3!

1.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly boring!
Not a lot about France, just her personal life. I gave up eventually, after ploughing about a third of the way through.
