Skin Rage 3 Mar 2006
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is a truely fantastic album. Unlike Fleshwounds, Skin has returned to a more rocking style (without it being of the same genre as Skunk Anansie). The album has spawned two singles so far: Alone In My Room and Just Let The Sun. The former is a brief punk-rock growl, the latter, a heavy, thudding track which sees Skin sounding dark yet strangely euphoric. The album does have its softer moments. The beautiful 'Purple' is bitter twinged with melancholy, yet driven on with a marching beat; the chorus lyrics: 'She won't go where I, I would go for you, I cursed my heart for you' leaving a particularly strong impression. Similarly, the final track on the album, 'Falling For You', leaves the listener soothed and reflective after, as with all of Skin's work, something of an emotional and musical roller coaster.

Other stand out tracks on the album:

Nothing But - Begins soft, in 'Fleshwounds' style, before building to a climax. The lyrics are particularly impressive: 'I feel nothing but oceans of love and forgiveness for you and your sweet girl, please ignore the particular way I smile, take no notice of the blood on the lip I bite'...

Moving On - One of the most original sounding tracks on this album. The rolling beat combined with glittering guitar sounds, not to mention Skin's voice sounding almost angelic, then as the music builds, gradually cracking to reveal the snarl she was so renowned for in her Skunk Anansie days.

She's On - Just very heavy, very catchy, very fun.

This is a superb album, its quite short at 30 something minutes, but this means it has impact and leaves you wanting more... so just just put it on repeat. Not a 'weak' (bad pun) track on it. I just suggest buying the singles as well too get more of her in her ever changing form. But going by the indie feel this has, she sounds comfortable and confident and in top form!!
Loving this!!!

UPDATE 02/01/11 - Listened to this the other day and it sounds as superb and fresh as the day i got it. :)

A fantastic return 2 April 2006
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Skin's second solo album is another fantastic effort. This album is a well-paced mix of quality heavier Skunk Anansie style songs (such as Just Let The Sun) and more reflective and deeply personal songs like those in Fleshwounds. The emotional feel of songs such as "Nothing But" and "Falling for You" are brilliant cornerstones of this album. If there is a weak point on this album it is probably the song "Alone In My Room". But overall, it's awesome.

The B-Sides on the single of Just Let The Sun are well worth investing in.

As much as I like this album I still don't think it is quite as good as Fleshwounds - you just can't beat "Listen To Yourself" and "I'll Try"!
