The third release from this amazing Texan trio is a must for the serious rock fan. Typified by a mix of powerful rock riffing and Beatle-esque three-part vocal harmonies, vented via imaginative songwriting and with instrumental flair, King's X have created a singular musical syntax, best illustrated on their excellent second album, 1989's Gretchen Goes To Nebraska. Why these guys have so far failed to generate chart-busting record sales remains something of a mystery...

My way into King's X was first through "Please Come Home...Mr Bulbous" and then the self titled fourth album. This got me interested, but it wasn't until I picked up the third album "Faith, Hope, Love" that the love affair began.
The album kicks off with "We Are Finding Who We Are", one of the singles released from the album and a wonderfully funky singalong based around a wicked twisty-turny riff. Those trademark gorgeous backing vocals are in full flow from the off. Then the phenomenal "It's Love" with such an immensely life-affirming verse, in the glorious guitar riff as much as the vocals. I usually pay more attention to music than vocals, but King's X write such exquisite vocal melodies and engrossing lyrics that unusually for me, the vocals hold just as much weight as the music.
Ty Tabors's bass playing is always intriguing, and Jerry Gaskill throws in some supremely quirky drum fills here and there, really transforming the feel of many of the songs. And what can I say about Doug Pinnick, he makes enough noise for three people with a rich, warm and full guitar sound. Much credit to Sam Taylor though, and his crystal production.
The album is full of gems, and encompasses a variety of different sounds. After thrashing out the bluesy workout of "Moanjam", "Six Broken Soldiers" follows with it's progressive 6/8 feel. "The Fine Art Of Friendship" is another great catchy song, with lyrics that can't help but make you smile. "Faith, Hope, Love" is a fine epic with a truly memorable refrain of the album's title, while "Legal Kill" takes the album out with acoustic guitar and vocals as a king among ballads.
This album just makes me feel good to be alive, puts a massive smile on my face and could probably help me through anything that life throws at me. A truly sublime experience, whatever you're into just give it a try as the rewards are infinite.

I really like this CD. All the songs are great but especially I love the songs "It's Love", "Faith Hope Love", and "Fine Art of Friendship". This is great progressive metal. This reminds me of Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger". It is almost as heavy as it.
