Product Description

CD Description

Faith Evans is no novice to the music industry. She has worked as a background vocalist for artists such as Mary J. Blige, Tony Thompson, Usher and Pebbles. She is also a member of Sean "Puffy" Combs' Bad Boy family, and FAITH is that record label's first attempt to venture into musical lands outside the hip-hop nation. The debut establishes Evans as a truesoul singer, separating her from the pop-oriented R&B that has seemingly taken over the genre.
Faith's vocal style is based in the blues and gospel traditions, and the trumpet that enhances "Give It To Me" shows that Faith is just as comfortable communicating with jazzy instrumentation. "You Used To Love Me" is the closest she gets to a club or a jeep, but is still an example of the bluesy soul she conveys throughout the album. Although Faith shares the same producer as hip-hop-soul queen Mary J. Blige--who makes a guest appearence on the cover of the Rose Royce classic, "Love Doesn't LiveHere Anymore"--her approach isn't likely to invite too manycomparisons. "No Other Love" uses the same Isaac Hayes sample ("Walk On By") that made "Warning" a hit for her husband,The Notorious B.I.G., and is the kind of highlight that proves Faith's vocal talents surpass those of her peers.
Mostly comprised of ballads, the lyrics on FAITH focus on love and nothing else--whether it be the love for her daughter ("You Are My Joy"), or for her man ("Fallin' In Love"). Evans'writing reflects her life and her songs never address a something, but always a someone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless R'n'B/Soul CLASSIC, 4 Oct 2004
If you wanted to pick up one classic, classy, exceptionally sung r'n'b album from the nineties- this beats everything else HANDS DOWN!!! 'Faith' is one of the few albums that truly stands up as a testament to all that was good and wonderful about r'n'b and is one of the few albums of the time that still brought with it a really soulful sound heard in artists such as Anita Baker and Chaka Khan.

This isn't your typical bubblegum or 'for the clubs' r'n'b that filtered thorugh to the mainstream (although it features many underground club hits ('Ain't Nobody' and 'You used to Love me') and connoiseur all-time favourite ballads (such as 'Soon As I Get Home'and 'Reasons') . This is the real deal. Hearfelt, sexy, moving and beautiful. One of the most underrated and unsung singers of modern times.

Practically every female new artist of the time has took notes from this awesome chanteuse. This is one of the few true great artists P Diddy actually managed to sign in his heyday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every track is a winner !!!!!, 25 May 2001
By A Customer
This album is a hidden treasure! Tracks such as "No Other Love" and "Ain't Nobody" describe real emotion that anyone who has fallen in love can relate to. Together with Mary J Blige, Faith perfectly covers an old favourite of mine, "Love Don't Live Here Anymore." And after listening to "Fallin' in Love", which Mary J also worked on, I am sad to think that these two very gifted ladies will never collaborate together again. However, Faith does have true vocal talent and songs such as "You Used To Love Me", (Her debut solo song),shows that she can carry off uptempo tunes as well as slow ones. I could go on forever about the quality of each track as there isn't one that I could say wasn't worthy of being recorded, as is the case with many other artists'. There was no question about giving this album anything but five stars. If this album isn't in your music collection, you are truly without one of the best releases to date. Being signed to Puff Daddy's record label, How could Faith go wrong?
