From the Publisher
Author Anne Fine (of Madame Doubtfire fame) was recently reported as saying that too many of today's books for children have unhappy outcomes. In The Fairytale Quest, real-world issues like bullying, rudeness, jealousy and separation from a parent are touched on sensitively, but the story definitely has a happy ending which sees its main character change from a little brat to a more well-adjusted and unselfish person. At the same time, this is achieved without any hint of patronisation. The action in the story is based on well-loved fairytales with whose characters children will already feel comfortable, while older readers will have fun picking out their old favourites as they appear in the story. The story can be enjoyed either by children reading alone or having their parents read to them. Because of some of the serious issues that appear in the story, teachers will find it useful for classroom reading and discussion.
