Review

Authonomy reader reviews:

'This is so well written, such an enjoyable read. The characters are all distinctive, leaping right off the page.'

'This is warm, sweet and frothy as a cappuccino with just enough of the bitter side of life coming through. I love the juxtaposition of the English rose amidst bright, brittle New Yorkers - each of your characters is clearly established and distinctly voiced.'

‘This book is fabulous. Your writing style is wonderful and you have vivid characters that a reader can really fall in love with.’

‘Miranda - put succinctly, your writing SPARKLES.’

‘A light, easy and enjoyable read of love and life in the Big Apple, perfect for cosy nights in!’ Closer

‘Guilty pleasure.’ Grazia

‘A sparkling romantic comedy.’ Burton Mail

Product Description

Are happy-ever-afters made in Manhattan? Find out in this gorgeous debut, perfect for cold winter nights.

Once upon a time an English girl went to New York to live out her very own fairytale…
Florist Rosie Duncan's life couldn't be better, she has a flourishing business on New York's Upper West Side and fantastic friends. Moving to Manhattan feels like the best decision she ever made. Even though at the time, it was her escape route from heartbreak . . .

For the past six years Rosie has kept her heart under lock and key, despite the protests of her closest friends - charming, commitment-phobic Ed, unlucky in love Marnie and the one-woman tornado that is Celia.

Then a blossoming friendship with publishing hot-shot Nate begins to shake Rosie's resolve at the same time as her brother arrives in the Big Apple, hiding a secret.

But a chance meeting brings Rosie face to face with her past, unravelling the mystery behind her arrival in New York. Rosie is forced to confront questions she has long been trying to ignore, including will she ever get her very own happy-ever-after?

A sparkling, romantic comedy about an English girl who finds herself in the city where dreams can come true - or so she thinks…

NYC rules! 16 Dec 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
I suppose I am going against the grain here with my opinion, but I really liked this book. Might be the Christmas eggnog but it was a light, easy read that had me wanting to head for NYC immediately (much like I Heart New York did).

Sure there are things a tad annoying about this book, but the writer is competent and I raced through it with a smile on my face, hence the five stars.

If you've seen the film 'Someone like You' with Hugh Jackman, then you've read this book. I cannot believe how closely the story line follows the movie. It's like the author saw the film and decided that she would write a book, changing a few plot lines.

As others have said, it's a flat, boring story. The use of 'mate' is incredibly annonying, and I don't know any woman in Engand who says that - at all. The 'big secret' is nothing to write home about, and Rosie seems to live a charmed life without ever worrying about money, business or family.

Don't be charmed by the beautiful front cover. Leave this book on the shelf and spend your time with other authors. I suggest Julie Cohen, Janet Gover or Rachel Gibson.

uhh...is that it? 9 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
I've just got to the bit where Rosie has just confessed her "big secret" and thought I must have missed something, so went back a few pages and re-read, but I was right the first time, the secret wasn't that big and the effort of reading the book to that point wasn't worth finding out. As other readers have mentioned, the characters are so one-dimensianal and predictable - the one star is for the fact that the book is set in New York and not for the writing, characters or plot.
