Just a little too 'present-day' idiomatic for me - but still charming, enjoying reading it. And find the notes at the end of each story - as to origins, Mr Pullman's own added variations - adds considerable interest.

So when it comes to rolling witches down the hill in a barrel full of nails, this is the book you should turn to. Ideal for scaring small children and grown men.

My 5 year old son loves this, and I do too. Pullman has done an incredible job, keeping the stories elegantly simple yet deeply enchanting. Should be on every child's bookshelf.
